St Joseph was young, very manly, and physically strong. The bandits on the road to Egypt took one look at St Joseph and decided "Naaaahh, too dangerous. Let's just wait for another family to rob".

Mother Angelica said in an interview that old men don"t walk to Egypt. She was asked if St. Joseph was old.

He was between 28 and 49 at the time of the Annunciation, according to Luke. The Greek word Luke uses is "aner" as opposed to "presbyter" - what Luke called Zechariah. (Thank you Dr. Brant Pitre!)

I had a dream of what I believe to be St Joseph holding the child Jesus with Our lady on his left. What I could see is a very good looking young man with a tight beard. He was super imposed compared to Our lady who seemed to be just this white light but in the shape of Our lady. But I will never forget the blessing he gave. It was the most reverent and holy blessing I ever witnessed. A human could never do it. Believe me or not but I know what I saw.

I wish popes were young and strong like Peter was. That’d be nice

I respectfully disagree. He was old but not necessarily frail. He was a man full of vitality and wisdom that comes with age.

Fr talks about the masculine pictures of St Joseph he commissioned being on 'the website.' Anyone know what is the website to which he is referring? I'd love to check out these artistic depictions.

I love St Joseph as I pray to him often. Whether he was young or old when he was in the Holy Family is totally irrelevant to me.

Dr.Brant Pitre has a very good explanation of how old St.Joseph was , it is on Catholic Production, it supports what Father is saying here

I personally don't mind what way Joseph is depicted, I think him being youngish man would alot more sense but either way I don't mind. The depictions are all equally beautiful and all that matters is who is and the role he had in the life of Jesus and Mary

The Protoevangelium of James was condemned by the Church. That's where people get the "Old Widower" idea.

0:44 Anyone knows the artist of the Father's favorite image of St. Joseph? (It would have been nice to name him or her while pointing at the picture…)

The pseudo-gospels has influenced Christian imagery quite a bit. Joseph as an old man is a prime example.

If a man is 90+ and still can have children, I consider this a new kind of virtue haha

People think of Saint Joseph as an old man betrothed to a teenage Virgin Mary.
There is nothing wrong with traditional masculinity.
It did make me uncomfortable as Saint Joseph portrayed as an elderly man engaged to a woman in her early to mid teens.
Allegedly, Virgin Mary never physically aged past 33

03/03/2022 The writings of Itlaian mystic, Maria Valtorta has a very comprehensive of the "local" creation of the relationship between Our Blessed Mother and St Joseph. She was very toung (13?) and he was in his 40's and had taken a vow of chastety (a Nazarite) But the Jewish faith required all single decendants of David to be part the "lottery" for a marriage; within their line (the Davidic line). There were two parts to the marriage something like an "engagement" in our terms, and then a formal marriage, later which was interrupted by the "Visitation". When Our Lady returned quite a few months later, from the visit to Her cousin Elizabeth, she was obviously pregnant. Joseph went through his three days of trauma before her was informed by an angel of Her circumstances of Her pregnancy, he then resumed the relationship/marriage. The census by Rome required them to be in Bethleham and Our Lady said she was able to go within the timeframe available; thus enableing Jesus to be born there. The town of David. CHECK THESE WRITINGS OUT; they start with the birth of Our Lady and finish with Her Assumption.
