The use of beta blockers in treating heart disease has revolutionized heart failure care. Beta blockers work by blocking the effects of the hormone epinephrine, also known as adrenaline. When you take beta blockers, the heart beats more slowly and with less force, thereby reducing blood pressure. Beverly Tuomala Heart Failure Nurse Specialist explains beta blockers, how they are used, the types of drugs available, the long term benefits, treatment regimens and the side effects of beta blockers.

I'm 35. I just started my meds a month ago. I'm really hoping I see many more years.

I'm thinking this is very true. I went to the emergency room for shortness of breath and chest discomfort. They did a catheter on my and found nothing wrong with my arteries. Wide open. No blockage. Clean as a Whistle. In other words. No coronary artery disease. Wat it was my girlfriend and I stay up every night drinking 6 6pack of beer 4 packs of smokes and a fifth on liquor every night from 6p.m. to 7 a.m. over kill. They told me I shock my heart and weaken it. So they put me on corig and entresto and sent me home with a life vest. I was so weak. My doctor said give him 2 to 3 months and he'll have me back to myself cause I didn't have a heart attack. Just weaking my heart. So it's not damage. Just stunned. At the time I could only walk 20 steps and I'd get winded. But now. Been on meds. Eating healthy. Fruits and vegetables and very little meats. From 20 steps I went one week ago I was walking 600 to 1000 step. The following week I was doing a little over 2000. I'm keeping it ther until I go in in December 21 for my echo to see if my Ejection fraction has increased. Was at a 20%. Very low. But that was back on Aug 05 2020. Now we are in October. Wish me luck guys. Oh yeah. I stop smoking and drinking. Feel so much better. I don't get no symptoms of any sort. Peace and love!!!

At age 74 I've been taking Atenolol 50m for over 20 years since having 3 stents placed. I exercise everyday indoors or our for 15-20 minutes. I sometimes get winded and I wonder, does the Atenolol prevent me from getting up to my full capacity, kind of like a governor on a car accelerator. Anyone.
