The machine is running in reverse which will raise the current required when the tool is engaged into the work piece. The ram should advance slower than retract. Rotating correctly will give maximum thrust on the cut stroke for least current.

Doesn't the motor rotating the opposite way? The cutting motion should be slow, and retracting the blade should be the fast motion. The motor torque will be lower then. So the amperage as well. In addititon, the retraction motion should move the workpiece.

As you live on GB is there residental three phase power available? My mind boggles every time I see a youtube video from the US and most people have to use phase converters. In Finland even the newer apartment building flats have three phase. And as far as I know almost every detached house has 3*25 amp or 3*35 amp panel or larger
