Asha Elijah (aka Asha & Asher Quinn) sings 'In the forest' from his album "Music & Morality." CD/download when the album is ready.
This recent song is the first for a new studio album. Since 1987 I have released 37 studio albums (in 37 years) plus 7 compilation albums, 2 of which are double albums. Mostly these are my own original compositions which I describe as spiritual love-songs, though they include a few instrumental & piano albums, too, plus a 'live' in-concert album with a DVD.
Amongst the 37, I have also recorded 6 volumes of cover versions of songs by other artists that I love, notably Bob Dylan & Leonard Cohen. I only sing what I love! The first of these was a double-album ("Songs of Love & Chains").
My YouTube channel features over 540 song-films, most of which I have filmed myself, and I'm told I've now topped 5 million views all told. Films to my songs made by others actually total nearer 7 million more.
My early work, often instrumental, was thought of as New Age (though not by me), and was marketed by New World Music, worldwide. I'm not really interested in style, sound or genre, however, only in music as a message and conveyor of spiritual reality.
I've been independent since 2005, and am more a minstrel & troubador than a folk or rock singer; more Grail Knight than hippy! I currently have 8 new assorted albums on the go, and that's the way it usually is.
I have migrated to Hungary from the UK for spiritual & artistic reasons, and this song 'In the forest' was inspired by the magical nature in Hungary, particularly a place I visit several times a week in Solymár, just outside Budapest.
I live in the city but can be in Solymár within 20 minutes, where many friends live because of the good air, beautiful countryside, and Waldorf schools for the kids.
This is a forest where the Buda hills meet the Pilis mountains, and a stream runs through it culminating in a very unexpected small ravine & waterfall. This is called the Pepper Stream, over which hangs what I call the Magic Tree, a great favourite with kids. We actually have a fitness warriors group there, too.
Personally I keenly feel the presence of loving elemental spirits there, which adds to the magic.
The song is written from the perspective of higher spiritual beings, angels or elementals, who love us and want only good for us. It's a love-song TO us, by the angels!
I filmed for it by the actual Magic Tree and Pepper Stream, so it's completely in situ!
I can compose only intuitively, and feel absolutely guided by higher beings. I don't feel I write these songs, they are rather transmissions. In the old days, the angels would politely inspire me, secretly... I thought it was ME! But these days they just tell me to sit down, listen carefully and faithfully transpose. They're still polite, but we've dispensed with the formalities.
I can't read or write music, but I just know what to play. I couldn't explain that to anyone else. It's the same with the films; there's no script, I just follow my heart, and then get home and find the story in what I filmed. This is also true of the editing; I don't 'do IT' rather 'IT does me'!
So this feels like my life purpose; to bring higher love-songs to earth. Once the song leaves me, it is free to fly. I barely market anything, and give most of it away for free on YouTube & Facebook. It comes into me freely, and I share it freely.
If anything I'm more like an organic gardener or farmer. I simply cultivate the fruit, and leave it to be collected outside my gate by whoever is passing by.
I'm a qualified spiritual psychotherapist (also since 1987) and with both therapy & song I go to the same place, which I call source.
My motive is simply to share what gifts have been given to me from above, because those gifts have both healed me and initiated me into spiritual reality, and that is what I also wish for others.
I aspire to inspire, so that people can better seek beauty, goodness & truth through faith, hope & love, as I have been inspired to do.
Since I have been in Hungary particularly, with it's many ancient spiritual secrets and mysteries in the land and the language, I've been on a roll! Since before 2018, I realise that I've pretty much been producing at least one new song every week; compositing, recording & filming.
That's why I have 8 albums on the go. I have to put them all somewhere!
I sing in Hungarian better than I speak, but I'm learning! I've produced one album in Hungarian and have just started another, but most of my songs, like this one, are in English (with a few French, German & Spanish ones, too).
On one track of mine ('Kyrie Eleison') I sing the Lord's Prayer in the original Aramaic.
