UK: Nationality and Borders Bill
THE Government's flagship immigration legislation has cleared the House of Commons amid chaotic scenes and claims of "anti-democratic" tactics from the Deputy Speaker and some MPs. How did your MP vote?
The Nationality and Borders Bill, brought in by Home Secretary Priti Patel, seeks to curb the crossing of the English Channel by refugees. MPs approved the Nationality and Borders bill on its third reading by 298 votes to 231, a majority of 67.

The third reading debate was squeezed into only nine minutes after delays caused by voting on amendments reduced the amount of time available - something that was branded as “anti-democratic practice” by Deputy Speaker Dame Eleanor Laing.
Ms Patel told MPs: "This Bill introduces the most significant overhaul of our asylum system in over two decades and it is a shame members of this House resort to delaying tactics to delay this debate.
"Our Bill will bring a new comprehensive, firm but fair, and long-term plan that seeks to address the challenge of illegal migration facilitated by serious organised criminals exploiting people and profiting from human misery."
The bill was heavily opposed by opposition MPs, and only two Tory MPs – Simon Hoare and Caroline Nokes – broke ranks to back the change.
The bill has been controversial inside the house and out of it.
Human rights organisation Amnesty International say, if passed, the Nationality and Borders Bill "will create significant obstacles and harms to people seeking asylum in the UK's asylum system" and that the legislation undermines the Refugee Convention, among others.
Leading immigration lawyers have also said the bill breaches international and domestic law.
Ms Patel has argued the legislation would authorise "boat turnarounds" amid a sharp rise in people making perilous journeys across the English Channel and would give Border Force staff who commit criminal offences while pushing back boats immunity from prosecution.
It comes just a fortnight after 29 people drowned in the English Channel while trying to make their way to the UK.
