As far as my absolute favorite captain. I'm torn between Sisco and Janway. But I agree, overall Picard was the best captain.

For me it's Janeway for her resourcefulness and resilience. As much as I like Picard and loved Next Gen, to me he's the least best captain, and it's due to his perfection. He's never seemed real enough. He borders on being a Marty Stew. Only time he felt real was in First Contact, especially during his scenes with Lily. Picard lacked that vulnerability that all the other captains had. Also, the Picard series grossly deviates from the canon history, like the advice Kirk gave him in Generations. What he did to Raffi was totally opposite of what Kirk advised, and his repair of that wasn't written well enough in my opinion to make it genuine or believable.

There was no Prime Directive during Archer's time as Enterprise's C.O. There was also no Federation, both of those are things that came about partly because of Archer and Enterprise NX-01.

Kirk. The first Star Trek is still the most funnest to watch. Only two shows that brought back that kind of fun was Stargate. I even like the old sets from the 60's better.

Objectively Picard is the best. Subjectively Archer is my favorite.

For me the real goat here was Archer 🚀

Picard > Kirk > Sisko > all the rest

Although, I can’t decide entirely if Kirk should be in that place or Sisko. For now that’s my choice.

Sisko and Janeway and Picard, for me.

"Best Captain" would depend on who is answering.

Picard would be Starfleet's choice - His tenure as captain most closely matched the federation's ideal while still having countless accolades and achievements.

Janeway would be her crew's choice - I would expect her crew, down to the lowest rank, would be more loyal to her due to the lengths she took to get them home safely, while the crew of the others would not have as much reason to be appreciative of the captain of a single ship they served on.

Sisko would be the choice of Bajorians, as well as those he faced, like the Dominion and Cardassians. He was respected more by his opposition, as well as his status as a prophet.

Kirk would most likely be the choice of modern Starfleet cadets and those looking to "Explore strange new worlds". He would be the unofficial poster boy for Starfleet recruitment.

Finally, Archer would most likely be the choice of the average federation civilian; his name would be in the history books and more likely taught as part of general education when covering the history of the Federation.

Sisko...then Janeway. They had actual challenges. Then Archer...because he had no rules.

My favourite Captain is Archer, I loved Enterprise. But Captain Kirk is the best, followed by Picard, Janeway, Sisko and Archer.

There's one thing about Captain Janeway I felt that you forgot is that due to being lost in the Delta Quadrant Captain Janeway is forced to let her maternal instincts come out from time to time, thus making her a sort of a mother figure to her crew. especially towards Kes and Ensign Harry Kim and in a way 7 of 9 when she came aboard. And I obviously can't speak for every other audience but when those maternal instincts come out of Captain Janeway I as the audience could feel it and see it. And as for the best Captain in my opinion as much as I like to pick Captain Janeway, I would have to go with Captain Benjamin Sisko as he is more than just a mere Captain with in universe and because of it lead him to nobly sacrificing himself in the series finally of Start Trek DS9, and on top of all that he is forced to become a single father raising his son Jake Sisko. After the famed battle of Worf359. And our of all of the captains he's probably went to the Mirror Universe the most. Which makes him also sort of the coolest captain on top f being the best, and on top all of adventuring's he also had to help deal with the Dominion War. However if I am bias I would go with Captain Janeway as not Star Trek Voyager is my favorite Star Trek Show but, on a personal stand point Female Empowerment, always a huge Fan of that.
