2020 Lexus GX460 | Suited for World's End

We review the new 2020 Lexus GX 460 an ancient yet relevant truck/suv that has been around for a long time. To understand why this exists in the modern age, we dig a bit deeper to understand why it still exists and the buyers who covet them. While it makes sense to look at the used market, given the current economy the GX may be one of the few trucks that would hold its value. There are other SUVs like the Kia Telluride, Mazda CX9, Toyota Highlander, Dodge Durango and Ford Explorer but this is a different beast.

I have a GX i drive for work. I drive ~1000 miles every single week and have done it for years. It has 470, 000 and has been in the shop exactly 1 time when I hit a deer at 50 mph. Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, has ever broken.

I just bought the last 2023 GX460 my dealer had an could not be more pleased! It is everything you need, and nothing you don’t all wrapped in a beautiful package that will last the rest of my life…

The master of perspective. Rather than ripping a dated design he distilled the rationale for it. This had long been a question I have had.

my mom just passed down her 2009 gx470 to my sister, still runs like new. Now she has a 2020 gx460. :) These things get handed down from generation to generation lol

It will be a sad day when cars like this are no longer made

The fuel economy in a V8 Lexus is simply the reliability tax.

Matt Moreman of Obsessed Garage said you are by far the best car reviewer on his live stream yesterday. I think we all agree.

Watched a bunch of GX 460 videos and this the best and most balanced review by a long shot. I just bought a new 2021 GX 460 and am glad that I did. Oh, I still own a 1989 Maytag washer too. Works great. Reliability trumps everything for me.

300HP, 4.6L V8, port injected. In a world of overstressed engines, those stats alone support the reliability claims.

Strangely, my 2012 GX has become one of my favorite vehicles I’ve owned. I was shopping 4Runners, FJs, Tacomas, and a 15 minute test drive sold me on the GX comparatively. The GXOR group on Facebook has grown immensely the last couple years, some people are doing some crazy things to and with their GXs!

I got one of these in early 2021. I’d say 70% of my decision process came from watching this review 5 times. Nice work guys! Very happy with the 1865 technology.

I absolutely love this thing. It's perfect as far as I'm concerned. Also, funny you mention going to the grave with it. My neighbor bought a Land Cruiser Prado in the late 1990s and he died a couple of months ago but his wife and daughter still drive the thing. It's almost 25 years old at this point and it didn't have an easy life either because they own a lumber company and it spent its life on forest roads. Imagine something so indestructible that you abuse it nearly a quarter of a century and you die before it dies. The cockroach of vehicles.

Just said goodbye to my beloved 2005 GX470. I never had a moment of regret, even though she was the most expensive purchase I ever made (besides my house). After 17 years and 200k miles, my "tank in a tuxedo" was worth every penny. Kept up with all the Lexus-recommended service and she never failed me - can't praise this chariot enough! Sure-footed on ice, snow, wet roads, and even on the beach when other trucks got stuck in the sand. Awaiting delivery of my 2022 Lexus GX460 - I'm confident I can look forward to another long & dependable life with the best SUV in its class. Oh - and I call the incredible visibility inside the GX the "greenhouse view" - virtually non-existent blindspots. Thanks for a great video review!

Love it man. The further we get into new car tech and design, the more I crave the basics and simplicity of the 90s and early 2000s.

Here in Colombia, just recently Toyota started selling their lesser models such as the Corolla. As a brand it is mainly known for the Prado lineup, for this it is perceived as a luxury brand, and it sells these luxury trucks as hot bread. But most of the prestige that comes from having a modern Prado or a Lexus GX or LX is precisely because they are the same vehicle as a 20-year-old one. They are bulletproof and are extremely capable of road. On many places of the country, those are the 2 most important features. As of today in cities you can found swarms of modern Prados that retail for over $85k and on rural areas most of the trucks you find are 90’s, 80’s, 70’s and even 60’s Land cruisers fully working and carrying 3 times their cargo capacity. They are so bullet proof they have embedded themselves on culture. Outselling by a mile premium German brands, while having even more expensive models.

Sales figures for the 2022 GX are the highest since the 2005 model. 2005 was the GX's first year and 2022 still has a chance to beat 2005 in the last quarter. It has not been updated in 12 years and doesn't need to be considering the current sales figures. If 4runners sell new for >50K the GX460 is a steal at 60K. I just bought a 2022 Green GX, Black line special edition for 60K.
