Skills like Gybe (and many many others) can have soooo many coaching points!

The video here gives a clear example of how to complete the Planing Step Gybe- in planing conditions- along with the Top-coaching points I've picked out.

What also follows below here here is really special though.... the FULL breakdown of ALL the coaching points needed to complete the tack successfully!

Gybe Preparation | The “H’s” | 60second Skills | Windsurfing | #shorts
Gybe Preparation= The “H’s”

Getting a solid entrance to the gybe will make ALL the difference.
Many times I’m coaching people who think the problem is somewhere in the middle or the exit…. many many times the gybe has gone wrong far before the foot change or rig flip- it’s down to a poor prepared Gybe!

Learn and develop the gybe in stages.
Aim for small win’s in each session.
Having watched (and read) this go out in your next session with the aim of running through the H’s 3/4 times in each run. On the final one then take it into the gybe. Success is not measured by completing a planing gybe (yet), but could someone watching you clearly see you working through eh 5 H’s?

BACKFOOT- take it out early
- Place it next to the back strap (not across the board).
- Do this to stabilise the plane at the beginning, then begin the H’s.
- Removing your backfoot should not change the direction you’re traveling.

-----HEAD----
WIND
- Ensure you are powered up nicely, don’t wait for a lull… but equally not so powered up you can’t hold onto it
WAVES
- Water as flat as possible will make a big difference. Failure to find flat water we at least need to know, and read, the water thats coming towards us. It’d easier to ride with a wave, than going up/into the back of one!
WATER-USERS
- a key one for safety. Ensure you have plenty of space before you head downwind!

HAND- Back hand back
- it’s also really key to ensure your FRONT hand is back too. Front hand needs to be back near the front harness line. Without this the sail cannot open towards the outside of the turn as you come to the mid-point and onto the exit.

HARNESS- Unhook

HIPS- Drop low.
- As you drop ensure you stay BACK on the board too.
- You know you’re low if you bum is close to the water, and you’re looking UNDER the boom!

HOOVES- PUSH through the front foot.
- This is the point the board really starts to speed up.
- Driving off the front foot (whilst remaining low) will allow the board to accelerate under control.
- Once the board has stopped speeding up, gently shuffle the back foot over the the inside/carving side of the board.
- The aim of moving your back foot is NOT to carve immediately, weight should balanced between the two feet, and through weight distribution you should be able to choose how hard/quick the board turns.

Filmed on a 96lt Freestyle wave, and a 5.0m Point-7 Spy.
Wind was a Bft 4 (13-18knots).
Chop around knee height.

Thanks for another great video do you think you could include some basic wave riding tips for something starting out in the waves not sure your spot allows for wave tutorials?

Great video as always! Before the gybe and when planning, how to you remove the pressure from the back foot so it's easy to remove? I use shoes but I don't think it's the reason, my straps are properly set up. Some people tell me to hang onto the boom.

Thanks again for this great Video.
There’s something for beginners which for me blocked my success for long time.
Look at the front arm, that it’s also not so near to the mast. Lots of beginners have a little bit wider grip and then the front hand has also to move back closer to the harness line.

hey i find these really hard to do in a 2004 mistral one design + 5.6 old sail, does bringing the mast up towards the nose makes it harder ? bcs i use that to go upwind well but when i want to gybe it gets hard
