Watch this before buying a Color ebook reader (e-reader)!

Kobo will probably soon release two new colour e-readers, a Kobo Clara Color and a Kobo Libra Color that will use Kaleido 3 colour e-ink displays. But colour ebook readers is not as good for normal text ebook readers. It makes the display brightness and sharpness a lot worse. The experience get very dull and blurry. Color ebook readers is only good for reading color comics, color mangas and do other stuff like browsing the web, social networks and reading the news. Not for reading books. Too Dull, Dark and Blurry displays for that.

I do a lot of activities that tire my eyes: Drawing, coloring, writing, cross-stitching, and of course, a lot of reading. I have been reading e-books as well as physical books for years. I started with Nook, continued with Kobo Aura, now I have Kobo Libra 2. I was excited to hear about color e-readers coming out, but from what you said, they're not good for the eyes. I don't want to tire my eyes any further. Thanks very much for the information 🙏🏻💐

Thanks for this in depth discussion. I recently bought a kobo libra 2 and was worried I jumped the gun, missing a fancy new feature. Now I realize I have the perfect e reader for my personal needs.

Sir, thank you so much for your technical analysis on color e-readers, but I wonder if highlighting and adding small notes in different colors is much more pleasant and engaging when reading...Nevertheless, for the reading purpose only, a black and white e-reader is better, and in that regard I agree with your assessment.

I love comic books and manga. I do not have a lot of space on my house to buy them. If what is needed is to increase the background light, then is good for me. Thank you for reporting on this issue. It is nice to know before buying

Thanks for a great comparison. Personally my eyes are pretty backlight sensitive and I don't use ereader lighting in daylight, and always on the lowest setting at night, nor do I crave the "paperwhite" super white background which you don't get in real life paperbacks (only glossy mags etc). But not having colour highlighting or colour menus has always bugged my about my ereaders, don't ask me why ... when 90% is spent reading b&w text it seems crazy. Basically i am more likely to pick one of these colour ereaders up than my trusty old Boyue e reader which stays on the shelf. I will have a look at the Libra Colour in store when it lands just to check its not too dark. Thanks again.

Thank you for this informative video! I had no idea, and was excited about the new color announcement. I think the new Clara B&W will be the one I go for, if anything. Thank you again!

you make a good point that a lot of other reviewers seem hesitant to state. i'll just stick with b&w

I wish Kobo had updated the Libra 2 to a BW model. I do not need colour I need sharp text on a bright background. Thank you for this video.

Wish I had watched this a few days ago…. The Kobo Clara Colour doesn’t feel right and now I see why. Returning it now.

Just ordered a kindle 11th gen but then started to feel like I could have order Kobo Clara Colour because it has a colourful and the price difference isn’t bad.

I don’t really read comics much these days and if I do I can do it on my phone, so I don’t really need a Kobo Clara Colour and shouldn’t feel bad either for getting kindle BW. Isn’t it? 😀

Thanks for your video and explanation.

I was waiting for color e readers since ages. They are not quite there yet, but I will buy one anyway. I think I like to support the development of better devices.

This is good info to know! Thank you for this. I’m definitely going to stay away from the color ereaders.

i actually noticed this in kobo's teaser ads. They had their brightness quite high.

Ah so coloured e ink isn't worth it then? You talk about the Libra and Clara, but have heard Amazon are looking to bring out one in colour. Is it worth it?

manga are mostly b&w, and comics need a wider screen than 7inch imo, so I really don't understand who is going to buy the new kobo libra and clara color

There's no point in buying a color ebook reader unless you want to read comics in it.

I mean, books are just black letters on white paper, and we're not children anymore to be demanding colorful images to go with the text, are we?

A friend of mine said she wanted to get one, I asked why, and she said it was because of the book covers! I mean... What?!?
