This songs literal meaning is when you are pretending to be fine infront of the world, pulling up a fake smile just to please them, when deep down inside your in the worse state one could be, broken down emotionally and mentally, and how when one gets close to you and start to basically trigger your past unintentionally and you let the 'demon' out that has been hidden for a long time

When I hear this song a scene plays in my head. A man, sitting on his bed and holding a picture of the one he loves, the lights off with the sun filtering in weakly through the blinds. He sets the picture down on the bed, gets up, and leaves his home for good. That was the moment of inflection he needed to finally make the decision he knew he always needed to to save her. He fights his way desperately through scores and scores of enemies, growing more and more dark with each kill to survive and free the one little bit of light left in his life. To the point that when he finally frees her he turns and walks away, too far gone to want to corrupt her with the demons inside. The very ones he had to rely on to rescue her are what put them at odds and worlds apart.
