THE TOPPER'S SYSTEM: Learn New and Old Content AT THE SAME TIME

preview_player
Показать описание
How do you balance learning new topics and revision of old content before exams? How do you space out the learning? The answer is simple.

You keep on top of the new content every week… as best as possible and fill the rest of the time up with the old revision that needs to be done.

Because they both have to happen right. But if you start focusing on the old stuff and start from topic 1, then you’re missing out on taking advantage of studying and getting the first revision of top 12 out of the way. It's being taught to you in class RIGHT NOW, don't waste the time.

I also talk about how to revise these new topics quickly and how to revise for older topics (regardless of how much work you've done for them). As well as spacing of everything you're studying. Hope it helps :)

" You are studying for an exam, not becoming a specialist on that topic"
Really needed to hear this. When I revise, I go through each and every single line of the textbook, thinking that I might have understood the concept wrong or missed on some intricate detail, it consumes my time and I have to study 15-16 before one week of the exams. I am grateful to be the top student in my school but I am not productive and it sucks.
Thank you so much for the video, new subscriber ❤

This video explained exactly how I do things. I so waste a lot of time and I do feel like I need to learn everything before moving on. I have done the very thing of going back and learn the previous before focusing on the now and I have fallen behind so many times. I have felt the need to keep doing this but then again, this is what caused my procrastination issues. Thanks again for this video. You truly understand the struggles students face.

This space repetition is actually discovered by Ebbhinghaus ( Psychologist). He discovered the forgetting curve and then found a way to compact that through Space repetitions. And linking topics together is actually a way to put information from Short-Term memory to Long-Term memory also called Elaborative Rehearsal (unlike Rote learning). Thankss

Do i necessarily have to do a mind map in the first session? Is just reading it passively not better? So that I'd do active recall in my second session. What do u think?

Thanks so much for this, but just to clarify on other subjects, I still dont see how it works for chem, its abit hard to put a priming mind map for chem, because its alot visual, so what do you think I should do. It works really well for bio, but i cant seem to piece things for chem.
Any suggestions?

Thank u asin asif for this wonderful piece. Really have a problem with active recall though u have showed us video on active recall can u show us the process on to do active recall on a lengthy paragraph? Like should we break it into four words then memorize that and try to pice everything together or we should read a subtopic once and try to recall everything? And what will be the solution if I try to recall what am reading but yet its not sticking? I think I am speaking most minds here. Am from pharmacy.
