I agree, it is short and to the point. A great message

Thank you Dr. Gerber for posting this interview. I have been a big fan of Taubes' work, ever since he wrote "Good Calories, Bad Calories". Outside of some radio interviews, I haven't seen any TV interviews for his most recent book "Why We Get Fat". It's nice to see him promote this book because it is far more accessible to the lay public, which desperately need this information in any easily digestible form.

Strange thing but all vegans and fruitarians I know are lean and fit, yet all people eating meat are struggling to lose weight. You guys?

There's no need to bring a deity into the discussion, this is just science. :)

I watched a 70 minute talk by Taubes and managed to lose over 25 pounds in three months that I had been unable to do in 20 years.

Gary Taubes should be applauded for doing the necessary research behind human nutrition. I've been on a ketogenic diet for 5 months now and will never go back.

Me too. I'm 63 and couldn't drop the ten pounds I wanted to lose. After watching one video by Taubes I learned that to burn your own fat reserves as fuel requires a 'negative stimulus of an insulin deficiency'.

Once I understood that the weight just kept coming off. I've gone form just over 180 pounds to just over 150 pounds ... and I'm never hungry ... and my blood chemistry is excellent.

Our mothers made aplle pies & baked goods in the 50s & 60s Gary, we ate cereal, drank cokes & had white bread toast.Obesity was rare.French fries too were indulged in.Portions were smaller, we played alot outdoors, adults had more activity in leisure time etc. How do you account for Japan with its regular white rice intake & the lowest obesity rates.I guess they don^t wash it down with a xtra large 1, 200 calorie chocolate shake, so common today

More over, anecdote warning, I have been on this diet for approximately three weeks and have lost weight on it. The effects are quick and easy to study.

@brainboob How does one determine if he has leptin receptor abnormalities?

where the hell is the exercise part???

Exercise uses energy and that's it. Your hormones determine whether it can use fat or not. If there's insulin blocking the fat, then you'll eaither eat or stop exercising. Gluttony and sloth are symptoms of an inability to burn fat due to hormonal blockage.

From a scientific standpoint we have verified what your mother and grandmother always said. Based on the science of insulin metabolism it is dietary carbohydrates especially refined and processed that make us fat. Insulin is most sensitive to dietary carbs and less so to dietary fats and protein. Insulin regulates food energy and explains why we get fat much better then the 1st law of thermodynamics which provides too simple an explanation. Dr Jeff Gerber Denver's Diet Doctor

Good interview. I wouldn't agree that we should eat "any fats". Factory fats - canola, sunflower, soy, etc - are usually very bad for us because they're damaged and rancid (they have to be bleached&deodorized before they're sold). Go for cold-pressed vegetable/fruit oils - olive, avocado, coconut etc. - and natural animal fats from organically-raised, nature-fed animals - butter, lard, tallow, raw cream etc. For more info, check out the work of Sally Fallon & Nancy Deville & Zoe Harcombe...

@panchamkauns, Or get osteoporosis, acidosis, reduce the function of the adrenals and kidneys. Protein would need to then be broken down, making you feel sluggish. I'm not sure how you figure this.

@TheAmericanWaySeries So can eating a lot of protein can cause weight. 6 stripes of bacon are 500-600 calories. Some New York steaks can run 1, 200 cals. Why is it that Japan has a 3% obesity rate but white rice is frequently common in their diet.Your body can & will store protein as fat if you take in more than you use

@jk6271971 No need to live without fruit. I am a low carber and I LOVE fruit. You just have to choose carefully, and don't over consume fruit.

Moreoever, there's a host of eminent doctors and dieticians who base their views on decades of research that would say this man is out of his mind and that fat makes you fat and not carbs, or the combination of fatty foods and carbs is bad.Like Dr.John Mc Dougall. Watch his videos and form an objective all round opinion.

The fat you eat is the fat you wear. Eat carbs to do more - to burn fat!. I'm a very lean raw vegan and i have great constant energy, strong large muscles, i can do aone arm pullup! I havent been ill in two years (since i went raw vegan). I agree that bread and rice isn't the best source of carbs, but they are good foods when you cant access complex carbs (veg) and will not make you fat, unless you sit around all day!
Want to know how to lose fat? eat fruits and vegetables and move your body =D
