Today we're going to have a bit of fun with Linux, rather than checking out some useful vim plugin or new tool, we're taking a look at 5 interesting linux apps made entirely for wasting a bit of time on Linux, and if nothing else they work great as screeensavers.

the "something with hex values" is xxd output which can be used to display/edit the binary data of a file, the left collumn is the byte offset (an absurd one at that) the middle columns are the bytes and the last column is the ascii representation of those bytes

Genact is perfect for movie makers! When you need something on the screen that looks like hacking this will work great.

Cmatrix is definitely the best useless app in Linux. Gotta love it

Personally I usually use unimatrix over cmatrix. I really don't remember why.
My favorite of these kind of applications is asciiquarium. An Aquarium with fish and lots of little fun events happening. Another one would be pipes.sh (if you want to find it look for "bash pipes.sh"). Kind of reminiscent of the old windows pipes screensaver

Hey brodie, how do you get anti aliasing in alacritty? I have alacritty and by default it seems like it's not anti aliasing the fonts.

Thats one thing that's stopping me from switching from ST

One thing to mention with cmatrix. The keybinds are made for US layout keyboards as they are bound to the symbol associated with that number. This means they can be jumbled for people not using the US layout

Brodie, have you considered switching to only using libre software? I would highly recommend Parabola GNU+Linux-libre. It is based on Arch GNU+Linux. You can use it with either systemd or OpenRC and it is one of less than a dozen fully libre OSs.

Even an analogue clock (face) watch is okay says Zoomer @BrodieRobertson. Your comment struck me as funny. About 5 years ago I went back to an analogue watch after a few decades of a digital watch.

Plot twist: It actually installs a crypto-miner.

I have something to say to you. You make good videos but I think the reason why you are not getting more views is bcz you are posting so many of them. Give some 1 or 3 days of delay before posting new content or even 1 week. Give people some time to watch your content.
