NASA's GPM Finds Heavy Rain and Towering Storms in Gita

On Feb. 8, rainfall in Gita measured by GPM's radar was falling at a rate of over 64 mm (2.5 inches) per hour. Downpours northeast of Samoa was found falling at a rate of greater than 224 mm (8.8 inches) per hour. On Feb. 8, a 3-D image created with GPM satellite data showed tallest storm tops were located in Gita's forming eye wall.
