Bit off topic but after the war with Finland a Russian general said “we have gained just enough land to bury our dead”

I speak Russian and watch Russian movies. In an American WW2 movie you start out with 10 major characters one dies and two get injured. In the Russian movie they win the battle but all of the characters die.

All those young men on both sides and their loved ones. I don't consider myself a crier, but when I think about it, I can feel it welling up. Guess I'm not a complete emotional void.

After the war my mom worked as a young lady as a secretary in Gen Bradley's office at the Pentagon, where she met dad BTW - he was a lowly 2nd lt fresh out of college in Corps of Engineers. She remembered "Brad" telling of a dinner just after VE Day with Brit, Yank and Soviet officers partying. Got on shop talk of course and the Brits and Yanks were discussing how best to clear mine fields. Russians were puzzled and one general said "What is problem? Just march prisoners through - problem solved! If no prisoners, use your most useless men!" Sums up their mindset.

In Russian mythology sacrificing lots of soldiers for great Ess of Russia... He says. I am russian, i am quite familiar with russian history and mythology, but again i cant find anything like that. There is honor for soldiers that died yes, but not things like "its good to die in mass numbers" its really ridiculous

Out of seven wars in the Napoleonic era, five were declared upon him.

This person, Konstantin, easily lost nearly 1/3 of people we lost in ww2. There were 27 million losses. and most part of it were civilian's. In Belorussian area there was every 1 of 3 dead. whole villages with people burned alive in churches. And we do remember those losses. And we are still mourning and crying . There is a saying in Russia, i do not know the origin of it, - the war is not ended until we did not burry all our dead. And people in Russia are still in search and every year some soldiers are find and burried with honor. I was born 41 year after the ww2 ended. And i cry when i hear our war songs. This memory is in our blood and bones.

Yeah, except many of Napoleon‘s soldiers weren‘t French, but drafted from the occupied territories throughout Europe. Poles, Austrians, Germans, Spaniards and even Danes fought and died in Napoleon’s Russian campaign.

Are you suggesting that a Russian family does not care about their child if they fall during a war?

Britain had the same mentality in WW 1.

The British never had concerns sacrificing the soldiers of their colonial territories either.

To say that Napoleon doesn't care about the life of his army would be an ignorant statement. Napoleon was absolutely loved and adored by the his men.

It's almost like humans are human and we need government systems that recognize that and keep governments from getting too big.

The notion of warrior as protector has developed into warrior as cannon fodder.

And this is the reason, as soon as Putin said "this is an existential issue for Russia", it was over for Ukraine.

Such a waste.

Which war with Finland is he referring to. Because the last time I checked the Finns lost the entire Karelian isthmus including the city of Vyborg. I like Kisin a Russian who doesn’t understand know Russian history. If you can’t learn history you won’t learn history.

The Soviet army and the modern Russian army are two completely different institutions.
