Leonardo Di Caprio is essentially Hollywood royalty and has been in huge blockbuster movies at the pinnacle of Hollywood success since the 90’s including Titanic, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Great Gatsby and The Revenant which he won an Academy Award for best actor. Art has been a huge part of his life the story goes that the actor’s parents stood in front of a Leonardo Da Vinci painting at the Uffizi gallery in Florence when they decided to name their son Leonardo.

But did you know that he invests a large proportion of his earnings back into his vast art collection?

However the devastating fires that ripped through Malibu and the Pacific Palisades burnt down his house worth 40 million dollars as well as his beloved art collection that he has spent the last 20 years accumulating. Lost art is beyond a personal tragedy - it is a human one.

Everything we care about and value will end up as dust. This is life.

I find it hard to believe that all those millionaires, if not billionaires, did not have a rescue team in place for such eventualities.

It’s an amazing collection of art. As someone who lives in LA, there's no confirmed evidence that Leo’s collection was lost in the fires.

It goes without saying, I (like most people) am a big fans of L.D. and even though I think many of those piece aren't worthy of being called, "Art, " and some of their creators aren't actual "Artist, " as an Artist (also named after DaVinci) I feel for his loss-of his collection but more for his home. I have friends in that neighborhood and my heart goes out to all of them.

People have a disjointed sense of empathy. They feel sorry for rich people losing something opulent and unneeded while finding distant and anger seeing homeless people with a family struggling to get by.

I shudder to think if my art collection was destroyed. I had one damaged in storage and that was bad enough, Dont know what I would do if I lost all or most of them. I have Bin collecting Art for 25+ years, As an Art Collector, Art Researcher, and Critic, Art is very personal just as Books one Cherishis.

Not how I would have spent my money if I had his wealth, but what do I know

People often find new art distasteful or untalented. It’s not until later that it is viewed in a more favorable light. Art isn’t about who can draw the most life-like portraits and landscapes.

Very sad to have such a collection and now lost due to the environment...As an artist I know his pain, may he rise up and continue support artist as a voice for waking up the world's heart mind.

Interesting collection. I recently became aware of Walton Ford's work. Those are some large watercolors. Given the enormity of the fires and where they were located, the loss of original works must be staggering.

there's very little in there to miss. Most of these pieces look like 90 percent hype and 10 percent talent. You can spend a lot less money and actually buy something spectacularly beautiful.

"There but for good fortune ...." and then nothing ! It is awful to hear what is happening as the fires destroy all in its path.

He has enough money. He should have had a fireproof vault made for many of his pieces. And maybe one for his own backside too.

Wow would have had a burn proof house with that collection. God bless. Ai can Duplicate that, sinking was making him and breaking him

I hope he had insurance since his house burned to the ground. Well that will keep the prices high for the rest of the art in the world that survives.

Did Leo lose those soggy old drawings of his that were recovered from the wreck of Titanic

90% trash anyway, if only he had spent that money helping the community. Now its all dust. Hopefully he will spend the insurance money more wisely .

Hmm, I thought it might be interesting stuff like Dali and Picasso or something but like Banksy and stupid giant toys, not much of a loss really.
