INTERMEZZO is one of Richard Strauss' lesser-known operas. One hundred years after its Dresden premiere, director Tobias Kratzer has now re-evaluated it as part of his Strauss cycle at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and shows that the mechanisms of the relationship between two people, which Strauss relentlessly reveals here, are also familiar in the 21st century.

Behind the seemingly harmless comedy lies a skilful play about emotions and a reflection on the interplay between an artist's existence and private life.
