Leaving the US because of opposition to the winning candidate is different this time. People are not leaving due to differences in policy, they're fleeing the threat of an authoritarian state.

I left U.S.A 9 years ago, it was the best move I ever did.

I left. It took a lot of work but my life is much better now and I've never been happier

It's not Trump but the sad state of the mindset of people that voted for him...and I'm a Republican, distinguished veteran and I despise what's happened to our country.

To all the people in the comments saying people on the left never leave the US: Many of us do take the leap. Been living in Norway for six months and it’s been wonderful:

I moved already because I saw where America was headed.

Moved to Canada 20 yrs ago. Did it after GW second win 20 years ago. It isn't perfect, no country is but I am thankful everyday, especially now.

I left already the States, but not for political reasons. Having studied in Germany, I grew to like this country, with its strong social system. We live in the Toscana of Germany. It is warm in the summer and mild in the winter. I do not miss American corporate greed and tax avoidance.

Worried about my kids here in the U.S, not sure where this country is headed, even if trump leaves politics might continue to be toxic. God help us.

We wanted to leave in 2017 but jobs/family etc kept us here. Things have changed and I received my 5 year Japan visa (child of Japan born parent) earlier this year and already have a place in Osaka. Our plans were to dip our toes in and experience the adventure of living abroad. Today, having this all in place is the only thing calming my nerves.

This country is so screwed, it's a matter of when, not if i leave. Thank you for this video.

Thanks Kristin. All the vitriol in many of the comments is one reason we’re actually considering moving out. America used to be a place where diverse ideas could be shared and discussed without so much hate. Too much polarization and intolerance these days. Thank you for the excellent content!

It doesn't matter who won, I am very sad for what is happening to this country, how people lost their pride, their principals, I remember when I first arrived to this country, presidential candidates were clean record people, knowledgeable, well spoken, I remember when there was a presidential debate, it was all about policies and ideas, respect, there wasn't about a competition, about party, now its about a bunch of fanatics qho dont care about whobthey chose, now look what we have, I don't fell the proud of been an American anymore!!!😢😢😢

As a historian, I will not stomach living in an authoritarian regime run nation. It’s time for universal healthcare, education, forward thinking, strong safety nets to support a young family, strong union rights, protecting our natural wonders, and living in a culture that isn’t trying to destroy itself from within.

I currently live/work in Lisbon, Portugal. Over the past 30+ years I have lived/worked in 10 countries - Middle-East, Asia, elsewhere in Europe. It is not so easy to move to another country, unless (like I did) you work for a company or in a profession (teaching for me), that wll enable you to get proper visas/residencies/etc. There is also the 'culture shock' of leaving your familiar community/family/friends and starting anew elsewhere. Moving abroad is not for the faint of heart.

You do realize that most countries mentioned has great social benefits and free health care that right now U.S. citizens can only dream of. I am Canadian and the only place I'd like to move to is New Zealand, I'm a big fan of Maori culture.

It’s important to remember that every European country with a strong social welfare system, work/life balance, publicly funded medical care, and all the other aspects of life that are assumed to be of value to Democratic US citizens, also have similar societal pressures, anti-immigration sentiments, growing resentment of green initiatives, and surging right-wing parties fueled by all of the above. And unless you are able to claim citizenship by descent, you will not be able to vote in your adopted country for at least five years, or in some cases even longer. Leaving the US is an opportunity to get out of the immediate vicinity of a certain brand of chaos, but it doesn’t allow us to stick our heads in the sand — and chaos has a way of spreading, too. Bon courage. 🇪🇸 🇵🇹 🇫🇷

I cannot believe that you didn't mention Spain! I took early retirement here years ago and, boy, am I glad that I did after the shocking, for me, Brexit decision. So many Americans living here. I live in Valencia and they're is a super woman from America who helps with the relocation of Americans. Super YouTube videos. Spain is very welcoming and, yes you will need healthcare if you are not retired. I can't recommend it enough. Sorry about the States decision. I would leave too 😢
