A torch made from a resin pine branch. The lower dry branches of pine contain a large amount of resin, which supports fire very well. The burning time is 30-90 minutes, it all depends on the thickness and amount of resin.

I can definitely say that Ms Marusya Outdoors has encouraged some YouTube subscriber to take up outdoor activities, now to reconnect with nature.

That is fatwood that burns so well, it is usually in pine trees and mainly in the branches or the lower part of the tree, to tell if it's fatwood, the wood should be dark in colour, saturated in resin (aka sap) and smell very strong. also its a good idea to clean your saw afterwards as the resin can get stuck between the blades, good advice for cutting anything pine related.

Pine is a very sticky wood in general due to the very pine sap that makes this torch work.

Just a few things to point out.

1. Even if you leave the bark on the limb, you will probably get pine sap on your hand and you definitely going to get it on your cutting tools. So clean them afterwards.

2. Pine burns crazy quick. It is not a "hard" wood like oak or cedar. So although this torch idea works, it probably won't last even 15 mins.

3. This video reminds me about something with Pine trees specifically. If you are looking for fire starting material and are in the woods, look for a rotting pine tree on the ground. As the tree rots the pine sap works its way to the heart of the tree. This creates a dense inner section that is also very easily flamable. Dig this area out of the tree (no cutting involved as the tree is literally rotting) and break this section off. It is probably only going to be a inch or two thick. Sometimes you can find pine stumps in the woods where the only thing left is the outer rim of the stump and this very dense heart. You can literally take a knife cut off shavings and have natural fire starter material.

4. Pine is absolutely the last wood you want to burn in a chimney. It burns too quickly and the tree sap sticks to the inner side of the chimney chute increasing the likelihood of a house fire from your chimney. it builds up over time.

Essa árvore tem uma resina altamente inflamável! Ela corta o galho ainda verde e divide em quatro partes! O que mantém o fogo aceso é a resina! E não tem vento que apague essa tocha! Uma ótima ideia! 👍
