Soul mates don't always mean forever. A soulmate usually comes into your life to help you grow into your best self. A life partner on the other hand is someone that you should marry and that compliments your values, and intresr when you are already best self. Who you decide to be with is ultimately a choice. But I can say from experience, a soulmate is not a comfortable relationship. More like a struggle compared to the comfortable yin/yang dynamic of a life partner relationship.
