Hp 15s i3 1215u or lenova ryzen 5 5500u, which one is better.. main work is coding and college related stuff and media consumption

5500u is more energy-efficient and cooler, hence less fan-noise, and has more computing power when 12 threads are used.
On the i3-1215u you have more single-thread performance, and AV1 hardware video decoder, also chip has more modern features too, but not faster GPU.

(16gb ram + r5 5500u) or (8gb ram + i3 1215u), I'm getting these two configuration with 512gb ssd in same price. Which should I go with? Please help.

i3 1215u is better in my point of view
if I need it, it just clocks up to 3.4ghz - 3.6ghz
and when I don't runs lower so save me much need battery life
if your trying to game nun of these are going to run the latest games
due to the integrated Gpu just old of ones like cs go,
Garry's mod, Gta V, Minecraft, World of tanks, (low setting) etc..
it will run some new on low setting but what's the fun in that in
my opinion just wait a bit more save up more money( ik it hard)
and buy yourself a mid rang pc (dest top pc)-not laptop-
that could run the latest games on normal to high setting
so you can actually enjoy it ...
just saying...
