I was protestant during John Paul's papacy. He was the first to make me think that perhaps I should be Catholic. I came into the Church in 2006 and was ordained a priest in 2013.

I vaguely knew who he was in my childhood, even though I grew up in an anti-Catholic home. I’m on a conversion journey right now. I can’t believe there are new converts that don’t know who he is!🤯

I worked with one of the women who was shot in the arm!! She retired a few months ago but she told me she was on her honeymoon and so excited to see the Pope.

I became a Catholic in 1998 after reading "Crossing the Threshold of Hope" where St Pope John Paul the Great narrated why we should BE NOT AFRAID. I've had an exhilarating pilgrimage of faith.

Amazing story! But the end hit me personally, when he said:"...and no World Youth Day". I am so grateful he survived, because without the WYD 2008 in Sydney, which had still be chosen as a location under JPII, I wouldn't have met my husband and my three beautiful children wouldn't exist. How crazy is that🤯

Pope JPII always remind me to the story told by Eban Ayers during Postdam Conference 1946. During the discussion about the future of Poland, Stalin brought a proposal that will put Poland under Communist's sphere of power. Churchill objected and said that the Pope and Polish Catholics would be very displeased. Then Stalin turned to Churchill (after taking a tug at his moustache) and asked the famous question "How many divisions did you say Pope has?"
Fast forward 32 years later, the second conclave in 1978 elected a new Pope, a Polish Pope. During his reign not only Poland becomes free country again but the Eastern Block also fell like dominos.
I always love the way our Lord answered to Stalin's challlenge. Not only He released Poland from oppression but also USSR from its own burdens.

The day of the assassination attempt, Pope
St John Paul had lunch with Venerable Dr Jerome Lejeune and his wife. Upon returning to Paris Lejeune learned of the assassination attempt and was overcome with severe pain in the same parts of the body where the Pope was struck. Doctors never found a cause.
Both men worked together for the cause of life. Lejeune was assigned the task of first head of the Pontifical Council for Life even though he was on his deathbed from cancer. He said, “I’m dying while on special duty.” 9:14
Pope St John Paul visited Lejeune’s tomb south of Paris.
I have a special devotion to both these men as the mother of a daughter who has Down syndrome. It’s heartbreaking that the Council for Life and the Institute for the family are under attack by pro-abortion priests.
Pope St John Paul, Venerable Dr Jerome Lejeune pray for us!

My Polish Catholic grandmother was really happy to see John Paul II elected Pope.
As a bonus: Her little address book from the Old Country had an entry with the name, Wojtyła.
So I've always referred to him as mój wujek.

JPII opened the "Golden Doors" in 2000. I converted that summer and actually was able to come into the Church at Easter 2001.

I wonder if the night before JPII was shot, the reason he was asking our Lord "dlaczego?" is because he knew what was coming during the day.

The Polish Bishops have put forward a petition to Pope Francis to have JPII to be recognized as a doctor of the Church. He is such an obvious candidate for this recognition that arguably the only person that may deserve it more is his best man, Benedict XVI, except B XVI is not even a saint yet.

Fun fact, JPII and Ratzinger used to converse with each other in Latin. Some of the last people who were capable of doing so.

Everyone needs to read Fr Charles Murr's book Murder In The 33rd Degree. It's a true story.
