📚DIY READING NOOK - PART 2📚

My friend asked me to design a space for her kids to hangout, read, and play in and I just couldn’t say no! Last video we did the wallpaper and then my kids got sick for a week and slowed things down a bit. But I’m back and we’ve made a lot of progress! We chose a paint colour that matches the wallpaper and then started on some detail work. My friend wanted slats throughout the space and I custom built 2 bookshelves for the reading corner.

Next we are going to make a peg wall and desk for crafting and art and then adding a fun surprise to the front of the space! You won’t want to miss this so follow for Part 3 (and hopefully the reveal!)

I would have absolutely loved this as a kid! I know people keep saying the color is too dark for kids, but i disagree. Not all children are into bright or pastel colors, I certainly wasn't. This is going to be cozy af.

I would defenetly add a larger bookshelf for when they are older and start reading chapter book/larger books in general. As a book nerd myself i would love to have this. Nice job!

I think it looks really nice with a dark colour.
1. The kids wont 'outgrow it' like they would with a brighter colour
2. It gives more of an antique/hidden library vibe and its really cool xx

Dark tones and rooms make them feel even smaller and mutes whatever light is within the space, making it feel cozier. It gives it a far better fort/nook feeling that way

You should definitely hang up some fairy lights! It would match the vibe

The entryway could have bulletin board tape at the top of the vertical space on the wall for tacking up plant vines or artwork. Also I think a landing pad of some kind for your knees at the entrance could help, for when you have to get down to crawl in there, like a soft rug to kneel on and crawl over

I literally don't understand how you people think.
Just because they are children does not mean every single room needs to be full of sickly bright colors.
It's a reading nook, not a playroom. It's supposed to have a calm atmosphere not an exciting one.

One of my very good friends in kidergarten/elementary school had a stair nook like this but un finished, but it was her art nook and we omly ever spent time there. Lovely to see it being perpetuated!!

Honestly, I would have been all over that color scheme as a kid. Especially if I brought in my quilts and some stuffed animals! If your kid is obsessed with gilded fairytale vibes like I was, that's a fine choice.

I love the colors! Reminds me of a fancy personal library in an old Victorian mansion!

That's beautiful! Add an itty bitty lip onto the book shelves so they can't fall out the bottom 😃

It’d be cool to have some actual bookshelves for when the kids are older and reading smaller books!

I’m an adult and I need this! I think lots of adults have been rediscovering hobbies lately and it’s sweet to see. This looks cozy as heck :)

Watching you paint those baseboards made me so happy bc I had a contractor tell me they had absolutely 0 confidence they could paint my baseboards without getting paint on my carpet.

Now I can save the money and do it myself

I think you can add dehumidifier to prevent from mold and also for air circulation :)
