The Swiss have a very bad track record against Italy. While some think this isn't important, Croatia has also a good track record on Italy, and I thought Italy would thrash them. The problem with the Italians from what i'm seeing is the lack of that killer instinct when it comes to the attack. The move the ball well, they get into position, but they don't seize that opportunity to put the ball in goal. They need to change that, they need Scamacca or Retegui to step up and produce. I agree that the 3-5-2 is a better formation for this particular Italian squad vs Italy of old. I also agree Zaccangni needs to start, we need to reward the goal score and encourage that.

In 1982 Italy had a shockingly crap preliminary round and eventually won the World Cup, in 2006 they had a tumultuous draw with the United States and went on the win the competition. Basically never underestimate Italy. The only issues I have is the strike force with Scamaca and Retegui isn't up to much and Spalletti appears to be delusional having referred to Di Lorenzo as his "son" not to mention the delirious rubbish he spoke at the press conference.

I’m someone who is a fan of the Swiss and I don’t like how many in-line are propping the Swiss to shit on you guys. Nations like Italy, France, and Germany in the knockouts always deserve the utmost respect because the talent and experience will always be better than every nation.

Switzerland are always the underdogs and will be in this match though I believe and hope they pull of the win.

Still the odds have to go to Italy. It is going to be how both teams come out. As others have said the Swiss came off bad against Portugal in the last WC. At the same time they beat France last euros in the knockouts and if you go back to 2014 WC they played Argentina and went to extra time and lost to a heartbreaking goal from Di Maria.

It’s going to be tough and Italy and Switzerland both have a case but I do think Italy has to be favorites though close.

I just hope it’s a good match and hard fought.

I think we’ve got to play a 352 and outnumber them in the middle. Donnarumma, play Bastoni is his natural left centre back role, Buongiorno in the middle, Darmian, Dimarco Wing back (have him higher up to whip crosses in) Fagioli, Jorghino, Barella and most likely DiLo on the right. Then up to Chiesa who can drift wide and run at them and Scamacca. Scamacca is a striker who plays on confidence and Spalletti starting him will only do him good. His link up play on his day is top and he’s capable of scoring from nothing. It’ll be a really close game, that I can honestly see going to extra time (if not penalties) but as the reigning champions we have to get past the Swiss. If we go out, it’ll be a failure

As an Italian, I have to say that this is one of the worst Italian squads forward line, all over the place midfield...up and down ONLY light shining is Donnarumma...Don't be surprised if Switz win this game...having said that, with knock-out games, you never know and Italy has the pedigree, not Switz....plus look at 2004, look at 1992. Enough said. 🙂

Spalletti is obviously experimenting with this italian team which is foolish to do on a major tournament. This actually looks more like italys B team and if they go far it would be an absolute miracle. How could spalletti leave out locatelli and immobile who were the 2 goal scorers when they played the Swiss in last euros group stage. These are amateur moves by an amateur coach. The only advange they have here is that they are on the weak side of the draw.

Italy lost and Germany luck last 4min to shot the goal against Swiss , other wise 1:0 the last 90min was quiete boaring till Germany made it 1:1. In the last min.

If we can’t beat Switzerland we deserve to go home. We couldnt have asked for a more favourable 2nd place team to play against. Romania got a 3rd place Netherlands that’s bad luck. It’s the same old Swiss that looked like Swiss cheese when Italy beat them 3-0 in last euro and Portugal beat 6-1 at the last WC. Italy should have most of the possession and dictate the play. Why doesn’t Spalletti copy Atalanta and use Cheisa or Zaccagni like Lookman with Scammaca? Also Croatia and Italy have the best two midfields in the tournament and that why Italy had problems. Spain dominated and Italy was unlucky not to score earlier. People underestimate how had that group was

Switzerland has never won anything! in their history...I mean they are just as bad as ENGLAND.. they dont play well in hi pressure games and they cannot finish just like ENGLAND... I mean they didn't even win a match yet.. Only England is worse...
