Both are outstanding cars.  The Mustang is a good bit heavier so it is no surprise the Vette would take it in a drag.  That being said, I wouldn't complain to have either of them.  I'm glad America is making such high quality cars.  Wasn't the case 20 years ago.

It's physics, 700hp 3300lb car with drag tires will beat a 662hp 3900lb car with street tires, iron is iron. Both cars are mechanically well built but the lighter car with sticky tires is going to win.

I have a Shelby GT500 and the one major problem is the 3.31 rear gearing, switch to a 3.73 or a 4.10 and you will have a true dig monster. I also agree that to run the GT500 you do need a set of drag radials to get the car to hook.

When you go to race somebody, you get what you get. Gt500's fault really though. 700hp car on street tires vs 700hp car on slicks. I would like to see it again With GT500 on slicks. That should be a good race

Hmm, the Corvette is several hundreds of pounds lighter, has drag tires, and has the same amount of horsepower as the Stang. I wonder who's gonna win.

Everyone keeps saying the the vette (zo6) doesn't come auto. HE DID A AUTO SWAP!!! And he has drag radials not slicks. A true 700hp vette would beat a true 700hp mustang. Weight and aerodynamics is a killer.

Damn, you can hear that GT500 just blowing the tires off in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear..Too bad it didn't have a drag radial on it like the Vett did ..

LJ, so right. Huge slics on Z06 vs street tires on the GT500. I bet the GT500 would have won with slicks, it has taller gearing than the Z0. The dip stick in the gt500 needs some grippy rubber out back first off then he needs to learn to shift gears.

The biggest problem here is the corvette will be just like all the others in a few years full of electrical problems and all the plastic interior either falling off or broken.. GMs high price car but the cheapest put together...
