Officials in Rio de Janeiro hoped hosting the 2016 Olympics would help make it a first-class city. Instead, many buildings and stadiums made for the games have gone unused since the event ended.

Not to forget they evicted countless people from their poor neighbourhoods to build Olympics facilities there that are now in disrepair.

The fact that they built 31 apartment buildings that are now abandoned while at the same time evicting a whole bunch of people really makes me angry

Olympics on a corrupted country is never a good idea.

This is why the Olympics should only be hosted in countries with stable governments

Best Olympics was London 2012. The stadiums that were built for the Olympics, are still being used today.

No disrespect but the games should never have been held in rio. They weren't economically ready it was too rushed. People were evicted from their homes. A huge waste of money for a temporary event. Terrible investment nobody benefited but the evil government. Everyone saw this coming the whole thing was inevitable with a crooked government in charge

that is why Japan now try to organize it in a very moderate way. so, don’t judge Japan for using cardboard beds…

Thats crazy, the Sydney Olympic is now known as Sydney Olympic Park and it holds so many things from just the causal sports on weekends, events, school events/expos and housing. Still being used to this day.

Atlanta after the 96 games came out with no deserted venues. The main Olympic stadium was converted to a baseball stadium for the Braves and now is being converted to a football stadium for Georgia State university. The Olympic village is now housing for Georgia tech students. The Olympic pool is also used by Georgia tech. Atlanta is one of a few Olympic cities where its venues are still being used 20+ years later.

I really hate watching governments fail the people

The olympics should only be given to cities that have proven they wont waste the money, like london for example, the athletics stadium has been converted into a football stadium for west ham united, and even still gets used for athletics at times.

It was a monumental waste of money and those apartment in the Olympic village could be homes for the poor, NOT luxury condos

Los Angeles had a way different outcome in 1984. The whole thing was profitable. The same model will be used for 2028. Don't build venues that will only be used for a few weeks and then when it's all over run away. Refurbish facilities that already exist.

After the 2000 olympics in Sydney, all the venues are still in use 17 years later!
