This is one of those huge life goals I've had since long before I even owned real estate, and now that we've finally checked this item off our list, it feels pretty great!

But was this the smartest financial move? Some people told me this was a great achievement. Others told me it was a horrible financial decision.

I agree! I am on that same track of paying my mortgage ASAP instead of using extra money towards investment. I feel once my home is paid then i can play around.

We paid off my home seven years ago. Best decision I ever made. It also allowed hubby and me to retire at a fairly early age. I can sleep at night knowing my house is paid for. Yes as you say, I have to pay property taxes and insurance costs, but I live in a fairly low cost property tax area, so I’m good to go for now. Congrats on your accomplishment.

I agree with you, Seth. It may not make "financial" sense to pay off your mortgage and own your house free-and-clear, but from an emotional ease of mind standpoint, it makes perfect sense. It's one less thing to worry about. Congrats on owning your own beautiful home.

This is exactly what I needed to see right now! I've been watching all the same arguments for not paying down or paying off mortgage & then I see arguments to the contrary. I love what you said! I am inclined to put more down & recast my mortgage & then pay off completely sometime in the next year or two. Because I saw your video I feel much better about my decision.
