I’m sick of trying to survive at 35 years old, not being able to afford food for me, my husband, and my child. At this age, according to the American Dream, I should have been freaking successful, have a house with a white picket fence, with the only worry when my next dental appointment would be. I’m so tired of renting. I want a house. I can’t even get into school. And this is after signing up for FASFA, WIC, and SNAP. I’m covered by the government because I’m darn near poverty level. I didn’t ask for this, you can bet your rear I worked to try and succeed in life. It just wasn’t in the cards for me and I’m tired. So very, very tired. I don’t want to survive, I want to live. I don’t want to be in government programs, I want to be self-sufficient and take care of myself and my family. What am I supposed to do as a housewife fighting for an ‘at home’ job and a husband who makes $1200 a month working for the school district? We don’t want to put our daughter in daycare, we chose to homeschool because the schools are awful—I know this after spending a decade working in classrooms. I just… I don’t know what to do. I’m uninsured, gaining weight every day, depressed, brain fogged. I feel like a shell of a human who knows deep down that something went wrong. I want a house and I want good schools and I want a job.
