Finally I get to lecture a police officer (link in description for full story)

The question I keep getting in this video is “why didn’t you name the officer?” I agree that he sucks and deserves it, but there some psychos on the internet and Bike Legal agreed that we don’t need him doxxed or whatever goes on. I did file a formal complaint so I’m confident that he’s had some feedback on this to learn the laws in question, and the 500k views on YouTube are sufficient shame in my opinion (I’ll probably have another reel or two for him).

Note to the random cycling haters who will inevitably land in these comments: I was breaking no laws, in no one’s way, and if you want more details, please check out the full video on my channel where I explain what took place. I will dunk on and/or block the hostile comments that come up from people who are mad about having to slow their cars to safely pass other human beings and yet have all the time in the world to argue in comments about “entitled cyclists.”

If cops don't show it should not only dismiss the ticket but we should get compensation for lost time... if it can go one way, it should be able to go the other

This is why I delay my court hearing for tickets as long as possible because after the first reschedule they usually will not show up.

Always contest your tickets, assuming you can take the time off of work. They never show up.

I received 5 speeding tickets in one month in the same area. I was going 1 to 5 miles over the speed limit while in the flow of traffic according to the officers. I was in the flow of traffic, I asked why did I get picked out. All said because I looked like I could afford the ticket. I was driving a red Porsche Carrera. I went to court for all 5 tickets pled not guilty. Non of the officers showed up but one, he claimed he did not recall the incident. All 5 were thrown out, as case dismissed. Big inconvenience for everyone involved.

Have an retired cop as a neighbor. He said most cops only come 2 days a month if that. Despite having probably 10 or more scheduled

Yep. Happened to me also. Third time was a charm. DOT cop. Judge was pissed.

This happened to me, but I had to show up 4 times to court. The judge kept granting him a continuance.

I had a simple case in #Woodbridge NJ. I showed up 23 times!! Finally got a judge that recognized this. He looked at the prosecutor then the court clerk after i said, "your honor I've already paid more in gas and tolls than i could possibly be fined, i dont understand why id have to come back the 24th time?". He was very angry! Told me he apologizes for that courts behavior and let me go. I knew it was illegal and just crazy! Played their game. Also going back 20yrs ago when they did whatever they wanted to.

I would be very upset if that happened to me. To go to court and find out you have just wasted your time . for some of us, our time is valuable.

Where i live, they have an interesting way around this. A duty Sargeant is available to call the police officer to the courtroom if the judge deems it necessary. And yes, they will ask you to wait while the officer makes their way in and they adjudicate other cases.

Fun thing about court is you get all the officers personal information and if your lucky you can tag there personal vehicle and follow up at a later date! 👍👏

Trail by written declaration is better than taking it to trail to see if the cop shows up. In LA all cops show up mostly

I always tell everyone go to court, 80% of the time they will dismiss it. 95% of the time if you have a clean record & even if it’s something serious like speeding they will reduce it to a small fine with no points
