So nice to meet John. E is a good sport modeling the mask. He's been keeping his sewing experience a secret all these years. I still am learning all kinds of things about my husband and we've been together 30 years. It keeps things interesting.

I like the design but if you are going to go the route of Fabric mask I would recommend using two specific types of interfacing between the two cotton layers of Pellon 926 and, 915. It would help to give two layers of compressed filters. Also it can not be quilted.

Just came across your Video. Now aSubscriber. GREAT ENERGY.
A friendly tip - Rather than snipping a hole for the wire, use a stiletto or large darning needle. It will separate the threads, then insert the wire, then gently rub to close hole.
Thanks Guys for the video ! ♥️

I like your way of putting the 3" of wire in. I was going to use floral wire as that is what I have on hand and the pipe cleaners I had just didn't seem strong enough. Thank for your easy to follow tutorial.

Hi! I just discovered you in Quiltmaker! I’m looking forward to watching all of your videos!

I’m working on videos for my business as well and wanted to suggest that you look at your camera instead of the screen when you’re recording. That way, you’re looking your audience in the eye instead of the ear. Lol! This is something I have to keep reminding myself.

Thanks again for the great tutorials! I LOVE the Christmas tree and want to make some for gifts!

Couple suggestions on assembly: Steps 1-3 are ok. Step 4 should be to either pink (w/pinking shears) or clip the curved edges (makes smoother finish). Step 5 should be to hem the lining (smaller piece) as you showed (no need to do this to the outer area yet). Step 6 would be same as in your instruction, except, stitch from edge to edge (this adds stay stitching to the front piece & also allows for chain stitching). NOTE that you have not done the casing for elastic yet). Step 7 is correct (I turn down and press starting at the stay stitched edges). Step 8 should be to top stitch across the top edge, again, starting at the edges (allows for chain stitching to save time). Repeat for the bottom edge. Step 9 you turn the side edges of the front of the mask in twice and stitch down the entire length (back stitch at start & finish of each edge)..again this allows for chain piecing. Repeat for the other side. Trim & insert elastic (I use 8", but 7" is good (I like to leave a bit after the knot, so folks can adjust)). Step 10 is to stitch the pocket area. I stitch from the beginning of the lining (done from the lining side of the mask) to the end, back stitching at beginning and end forming an opening to insert a wire or pipe cleaner. I cut my wire to 4-5" in length and insert. leaving the pocket open allows for removing the wire/pipe cleaner for washing. Step 11 is to insert the elastic, tie it off and then pull the knot to the inside. This allows a filter (paper towel, coffee filter, etc) to be inserted between the lining and the front of the mask for extra protection. I make 20-50 masks at a time...chain piecing is a must for me. And the masks have no raw edges to fray.

Do you prewash your fabric? I saw that suggested but I didn’t know if that was necessary. Also, how do I keep the fabric from fraying during that process?
