Kate Rose - Adversarial Fashion Sartorial Hacking - DEF CON 27 Crypto and Privacy Village

Use of patterning and adversarial input techniques are on the rise as computer vision analysis of everything from our faces to our license plates becomes ubiquitous for everything from marketing to state surveillance. This talk will be a highly tactical guide to give an overview of the work in the area of confounding or intentionally triggering computer vision systems with fashion. This presentation will show you the same open source guides, libraries, and resources to build your own adversarial clothing, via the process used to develop ALPR-triggering fabrics. This talk will review not only the technical and aesthetic considerations, but also getting over the manufacturing hurdle from design to prototype so you can quickly deploy your fashion hacks to the people

Kate Rose is director of an organization that provides privacy, security, and technology resources and training to nonprofits and activists. She’s organized civic hackathons across the US, and currently leads a volunteer team building open source state advocacy tools. When she’s not recreationally filing FOIA requests, she illustrates and designs fabrics.

I'll point out that the "EU" plate was a British plate and e.g. Finland doesn't have an age identifier anywhere on the plate. Our plates are also a different size, we use a different font, have a dash and so on. So no, EU plates aren't quite that standardized (if at all beyond the country identifier on the left). Hell, e.g. bike plates are more or less *square*.

Wonderful work, you talked about salting roads can mess up lane detection on newer vehicles but I would be curious if that also applies to LPR. Instead of salt that's clouding the picture or making the cameras readjust lets force the camera into refocusing so the delay in translation surpasses the timeout value. Counter wave light (adding scattering photons or near-infrared wavelengths to form gaps) should do it. Applying a filter to headlights/taillights (newer cars with higher power lights) that if done with a small number of vehicles or embedded sources might work. Just was curious.

The easiest way to check against an already owned plate is entering it into a the various dmv custom order tags sites.
Tells you before you check out if it's already a match to an existing plate.

wow i immediately thought of the televisions series "minority report" i really wish they didn't cancel it not only was it a really cool/good show but they were in the know and ahead of their time with some of their character design and background story. they had the makeup thing to confuse and distort facial recognition. wow awesome.
