Right now, Earth is the midst of a mass extinction. Around the globe plants and animals are disappearing at a rate and magnitude equal to the event that did in the dinosaurs. Loss of species upsets the crucial balance that creates a stable environment for all of us.So, what can we do? How can ordinary people save the planet? It begins with and returns to observations of nature—made by you!

In this talk by award-winning author Mary Ellen Hannibal, you’ll learn more about how you can become a citizen scientist and help preserve species in danger of extinction.

Mary Ellen Hannibal is a Bay Area writer and editor focusing on natural history. Her book Citizen Scientist: Searching for Heroes and Hope in an Age of Extinction, was a “San Francisco Chronicle Best Book of 2016” and reveals how we are losing species right under our noses.
