How A WWE Star Became The Worst UFC Fighter Ever
After the UFC’s successful Brock Lesnar experiment, WWE champion CM Punk was brought into the UFC for 2 fights, and they were really rough to watch.
CM Punk debuted in 2016 with 0 MMA experience, opposite BJJ Brown Belt Mickkey Gall, and it went just as well as you’d think, with CM punk getting smashed and submitted by Gall.
The fight was very controversial as it’s undeserved placement on a PPV card, felt like a UFC money grab and was criticized by fighters and Joe Rogan alike.
But they weren’t done yet with CM punk getting booked for another fight 2 years later against Mike Jackson.
The crazy thing is, CM punk actually landed a few shots, took Mike Jackson down, and lasted the full 3 rounds before losing the decision.
Dana was so upset that one of his fighters didn’t finish a 37 year old WWE retiree, that Jackson was let go from the UFC.
But despite his undeserved hype, CM Punk earned a lot of respect from fans and fighters for even stepping in there and showing us

Well for starters.... Brock didn't enter the ufc at the damn age of 39 and was always a natural fighter/wrestler

He lost but mad respect to Punk for having the guts to step in. Man at least tried, most people don't even try. Plus he was 37 and it's hard to be good in the Octagon at that age.

Yk what he mightve been shit but respect for stepping in the cage shits scary

No disrespect to CM Punk, but Jackson was released because he was toying with him. He didn’t take the fight seriously and kept it going longer than it had to go on for. Right after the fight it was stated that he was done, due to his disrespect.

The thing is, considering how tough it is to be a full time WWE sports entertaining guy, being atleast 300 days on the road, and then especially you coming out of the longest championship reign and taking the risk of walking out exactly just a year later, after the body already took so much of pounding and at 37 years of age, lasting 3 rounds right in his second fight, I'd commend CM Punk for that.

At least this kid has the guts to enter the hardest mma promotion. Unlike those Paul Brothers who said they're gonna fight in the UFC but never happen.

Mike jackson didnt get fired for not being able to finish him, it was his lack of respect fighting cm punk and his disrespect towards dana afterwards

Mike Jackson is a dude from one of my buddies fighting leagues, the only reason he was in the ufc in the first place was because Dana ran out of people who had the low enough skill to get in. His last fight in the ufc got stopped because the other dude kicked Mike in the balls full force like 10 times.

Not really surprised he didn’t do that well, he’s a photographer, barely trains mma, and just is a regular dude who trains martial arts. His full time job is a photographer for fury based out of Houston. Check him out 👍

I think Matt Riddle said it best (back in 2018 I believe) that Punk's failure in MMA is because he immediately goes to the best training possible without gradually train and test his skills on multiple fight camps first.
In other words, Punk goes straight to the top instead of clawing his way from the bottom. And I think it's possible that that's one of the reason why Punk eventually failed in UFC.

Because wrestlers by contract are called "entertainers". Or more specifically. Actors. MMA fighters. Its freakin real.

That guy, was like 36/37 at the time, had major injuries from years of throwing his body around and went into fight young fighters who have trained most of their lives as martial artists, CM Punk deserves respect, and he gets hated by the MMA community for it, it’s stupid, he had the guts to go in there and give it a go, and realised he wasn’t ever going to make something of it, that’s fine, he moved on.

Anyone who steps in the octagon deserves respect win lose or draw, i wouldn't do it but im sure there are plenty of "experts" who say they would

All the respect in the world to CM PUNK

Played the heel so good when he left the company at mitb and got cena “fired” 10 year old me cried

He may have came up short in both of his fights

The first one was an embarrassment performance but mickey gall is no joke as someone who has no experience in the cage, punk tried to give it his all but just got dominated

The second fight against jackson, was a coming relief for him i think.

Although he lost, sort of convincingly too, but was in there every step of the way. Every opportunity to make that fight last longer, no matter how tired he was, he did it.

Now he is back wrestling for AEW i think and is now a Face, with a guy called MJF as the “Current Punk-ish” heel.

Say what u want about the man’s performances and fighting style, Bro is a legend and a performer and if anyone is reading you should probably listen to his post fight speeches because he puts his heart out there.
