Take a little sneak peek in the artist studio and see how Artist Abroad, Denise Buisman Pilger, creates her sprawling urban mixed media scenes. This video shows how the artist created a 48"x108" mixed media triptych titled 'Motion'. The painting depicts a surreal but recognizable New York City street scene, complete with NY architectural landmarks and yellow cabs buzzing by.

In this video the artist will take you through all the different stages that go into creating her artworks. From preparing the panel with sizing and gesso to creating photo transfers and painting. Watch how this piece transforms from three bare wood panels to a sprawling city scape.

Watch this video and see what really happens in an artists studio!

Wow - so much work! The weird perspectives of roads+ remind me of dAvid Hockney's trees/woods paintings = very similar but NY/streets+ instead.

Love this! A few questions: What kind of photo paper did you use? What kind of printer did you use, inkjet or laser?

i would like to see you transfer the skin (how you do it carefully) and further information on what you use to adhere the skin to your substrate. Thank you. Nice work!

Hello Denise! I just found your video! Thank you for sharing your techniques, I know many artist keep those close the chest. I read that you print the original images using a laser printer. What type of paper are they printed on? I would obviously have to have a print shop do this for me as I do not have a printer to accommodate my photographs. Can you please share the type of paper you print onto and the weight or texture of it? Thank you so kindly. You have clearly inspired so many!

This is so amazing. Thank you for sharing. I have no experience with this, but you've inspired me. I want to create a little wedding present for a friend using this technique with a photo of them.I had a couple of questions. 1. How do you adhere the skin onto the wood after you create the skin? 2. What kind of black and white paint did you use on the wood when you were preparing it in the beginning of your video (e.g. after you put the textured paper onto the wood). Thank you for any advice you can offer me.

Very good work. Congratulations. But how do you do to realise gel skins and how can you transfer the gel skins (very fragile I think) on the panel ? I realise small photo transfers with a Golden medium gel (semi-gloss) but i transfer directly on the canvas firstly prepared with gesso, I haven't understand the process for the gel skins...perhaps it's secret :) Excuse me for my bad english, i am french and i live in Nice (French Riviera).
