If not his losses break down Nepo, I’m shure these press conferences will.

This is more of a question for Magnus in a solo interview and not one with Nepo right there. It is going a little hard on Nepo to not only point out his poor play, not only point out his reaction to his poor play, but also then ask his opponent to show pity on him by giving him sympathy when their match is still ongoing.

Both Magnus and Nepo are very kind hearted people.

The "how do knights move" question from Andrea is miles better than this.
Now Nepo doesn't worry about the next game, he's worried about the next press conference.

the question, “do you feel sympathy for your opponent”, was tactfully sidestepped…well done Magnus. Kind of a brutal question for the reporter to ask, esp in the presence of Nepo.

If anything, they should be doing these press conferences individually, particularly if the match wasn't a draw.

I'm a fan of Magnus, and hoping to holds his title, but I can't help but feel bad for Nepo. He's trying his hardest, but the championship is taxing as fuck on the mind, and he's aiming for such a prestigious title, then they ask shit like this. I can't imagine how much it hurts to hear questions like this after you're already going through so much in your mind and your emotions with what has happened for Nepo so far.

“Do you pity the men that you crush in these tournaments, Magnus?”

I remember being emotionally stressed when I would play in some insignificant local tournament, I can't imagine what it must be like in the World Championship.

Some of these questions man. I would never ask that with the man who's just gone through such a rollercoaster present there. Feels wrong to put him through the ordeal that would follow if the winner answered with disregard. But Magnus shows class both on and off the board so I guess he was banking on that?

BBC: “Yes, Magnus, can you talk about why Ian sucks so much at chess?”

Ian: “Dude, come on. I’m right here!”

- Magnus, what do you think about Nepo almost crying?
- Oh well, yes, human emotions. That happens.

Magnus and Ian were friends before this championship. Chess rivalry apart they are on good terms. In fact Ian helped magnus as a second in 2013 wc championship

I was rooting for Magnus to win but seeing Ian lose breaks my heart too. 🥺

Magnus is well accustomed to theatrics across the board he played against bawling Hikaru many times

"Magnus, that thing you were away from the board for and therefore didn't see - how do you react when you see that?"

What an incredibly stupid question.

Ian and Magnus have class…and that makes them both winners in my book!

The people making these questions have to be sociopaths... omfg

Apparently some interviewers just want to incite drama. Regardless, good and tactful response by Carlsen. Only people who experienced the severe pressure of peak-tier chess battles would know better.

Press conference is tougher than the Championship match...
