In this Minecraft video I survive 100 days in a Minecraft world, where it updates every day. I start in Infdev, and update through Alpha, Beta and Full releases, all the way to the new 1.19 Snapshots, of the Wild Update.

fun fact the reason your skin disappeared for some 1.7 versions was because there was an exploit where people could grab your IP address on servers just by having a custom player head places in their world. it was such a vulnerability that mojang just killed the skin servers for those versions

Fun fact: Before Beta 1.8, Diamond Armor had the same strength as iron armor. The only difference was the durability. This made having diamond armor an even huger flex than it is today.

This was like a trip down memory lane for me. I began playing sometime around the massive redstone update

The reason the nether portal didn't work on Day 12 is that there were two obsidian in front of it. In early versions that confuses the game, so you can't light it. That's why the portal building strat is a bit different in early versions. Instead of placing one block in a 4 long strip of lava, you place one and then make an L shape in front of it, so no obsidian forms there.

I've been playing in my survival world since infdev. At first I was disappointed by the fact that my world didn't have any new caves under the old chunks, but, now I kind of appreciate it, as it makes it was easier to build underground because you don't have to clear away any stone. Also, really fun video! Its always cool seeing how players who haven't played quite as long react to how much emptier and less convenient the old versions feel compared to the newer ones :)

9:07 The reason why sheep spawned underground and why your house was suddenly full of sheep and pigs in the earliest versions is because high light levels used to be a catalyst for spawning passive mobs, countering hostile mobs spawning in the dark. At some point this was changed so they would only spawn on grass, meaning they'd stop spawning inside caves and houses (unless there was grass blocks in your house). There used to be methods for making passive mob farms using only grass and torches and water.

I remember being mad when this was changed so that mobs simply spawned naturally in the world and wouldn't come back if killed, because although the Minecraft world is functionally infinite, it made it so that passive mobs were now technically finite; if all were killed, there would be no getting them back. I was also, like, 12 years old or something, so.

IIRC, there were obviously way more involved structures, but the most basic 24/7 passive mob generator you could make was a pillar in the center with torches on all four sides, then surrounded by a square ring of fences, which were surrounded by stairs. Built on top of grass. The mobs would spawn inside the controlled fenced area and you could walk up the stairs and over the fence to kill them.

There's just something about the older versions of Minecraft that give me lots of nostalgia.

It’s nice to see how the makers of MC slowly added the things we know today and how Minecraft used to be. Thanks for this 2 hours of Enjoyment, SB!

Edit: 100 Likes?!
Edit 2: HOW DOES THIS HAVE 200 LIKES

This was a huge nostalgia trip for me. It was kinda like a full trip through my life in some ways, since I started not quite at the very beginning of indev but damn close. Man, I'm almost in tears. That's some memories hitting like a brick. I don't remember what the update was number wise at this point... the addition of wolves and cows... That was about where I started, somewhere in there. Because I remember getting excited about them and not realizing you can tame them until a friend showed me.

For anyone wondering why there is snow everywhere:

In the older updates there was a chance you would get a snow world. Were everything is snow. So when SB updated in the version Snow World were introduced, the game thought: “Oh hey, a world that has not gotten a chance to become Snowy. Lets make sure it at least gets a chance”. The game then “roles the dices” and finds out that this world should become a snow world.

Edit: seems like I was wrong. It was prob cause of biome changes

This is the best history lesson on MC's updates. Really puts into perspective the work Mojang has put into this game.

Fun fact: the reason the old trees turned into jungle trees is because of a quirk in how leaf decay used to work

In Alpha, notch (the creator of Minecraft) kept trying to add leaf decay, and the way the system worked is that leaves would have different metadata values depending on how close to the tree they generated. So if it was close to a tre it would have data value 1, or further it would have value 3.

These days values would later be used when spruce, Burch, and jungnle leaves were added, meaning that old alpha trees would turn into mixed trees.

while you could have started in Infdev 20100327, you certainly made the right call with 20100420 as you've skipped the torch/flower crash bug in 20100413.

9:09 your house is filled with animals because they spawn where ever there is light
10:24 right clicking whilst in the boat will allow you to dismount it. same goes for pigs with saddles.
18:15 ghasts seem to spawn a heck of a lot more often in these older versions. even diamond armour won't save you here.
18:32 you need 9 dust to craft one block of lightstone, it used to be a pain to get any usable amount of especially with all those ghasts.
20:00 if you're curious, this is the version I started playing back in January 2011, but in more recent years I have played versions way older.
29:05 the ice is melting because technically you are now in a desert.
30:28 the XP is still counted in the player data, but the game didn't quite know how to display that yet. it did learn in 1.0.0 though.
39:55 back in alpha the game used metadata ids to store data about leaf decay, these ids were later reused in Beta 1.2 for birch and spruce leaves, but those existing blocks when converted into 1.2 will also contain jungle leaves because the game doesn't remove those unobtainable leaf ids.

Your biome used to be gotten from the seed, so when world generation changed, the biome followed. This has since been fixed by saving the biome of a chunk, but you can remove that data.

Seeing everything since update 1 was very nostalgic
PS: You should continue this world when new updates come out.
