The best military operation attains multiple objectives. I don't understand all the observers trying to argue this down a single specific reason like pulling troops away from other fronts, or taking territory for negotiation, interrupting supply lines, etc. How about all of the above? And to add another reason - Ukraine has been gifted more Patriot Batteries. If this incursion pushes a Patriot battery's envelope 50 miles further into Russia, suddenly huge numbers of Russian aircraft can come under unexpected threat in combination with the limited number of new F-16's.

I already heard this morning that the gas line has been blown. Hungary had 2-1/2 yrs to wean themselves off, but chose not to. No sympathy here.

Reading the WSJ and the NYT on my iPad this morning, I saw NOTHING about Ukraine, not the incursion, not even the depressing negative stories about Ukraine that has been the latest on the NYT. Of course, the NYT made sure to extensively report on important stories like a singer’s cancelled concert-for the 2nd/3rd day? If it was not for UK media I would have very few sources of information regarding this very important development…what is going on?!!!

Not only is this a moral boost for Ukraine and the west but it provides Ukraine much needed combined arms practice and a corp of troops and commanders experienced in successful combined arms tactics that they can spread around to other units.

I think that the United States and European countries will support Ukraine in their efforts to defend themselves, even if they are using their weapons on Russian soil. The fact is that there is no good scenario or outcome in which Russia is allowed to win this war.

As they're at war, Ukraine could annex Kursk same way Russia annexed Crimeea

Hmm, Commander Ivan Konev led Soviet forces in the Battle of Kursk. Major turning point of the war against the Nazies during WWII. Konev was Ukrainian. So, this past week, Ukrainian forces occupy areas in the Kursk region. Poetic move.

I laughed when they said Russia still hasn’t taken Kyiv. Kyiv? First of all, “still”? Like it’s inevitable?
Secondly, they “still” (and never will, I believe) take Kharkiv. A large city VERY NEAR the Russian border.
