Hi everyone!

You know how they say, hindsight is 20/20? In today's video, I will discuss 6 things I Would do differently if I were to go back to undergrad as a bio major. Let me tell ya'll how I struggled, so you hopefully don't have to as well!

Ugh, your intro hit me! “I feel like advisors are out here to ruin people’s lives” This is so important for any new college student there are not enough resources in educating decisions. i went into college as a nursing major because of my mom, but no one told me I could’ve tried an assessment or go undeclared so I didn’t waste my time. New Sub here! Also, you’re gorgeous! 🥰

This video needs more likes. You’re being real and honest. A lot of undergrads should see this. Especially about the part about gaining some certifications and/work experience while working towards a degree.

Well, I triple majored in Biology (Medical Technology Track), Electrical Engineering (Biomedical Engineering Emphasis), Physics (Physics Track) for undergrad. Took 1.5 years off for mental health/other health issues. Total of 7 years for undergrad which prepared me for my PhD in materials engineering. I also worked at least 30+ hours while juggling undergrad and have been working since high school.

Good video/advice for biology majors.

I wish I had taken classes separately too. One day someone who switched their major from biology saw all of my books and gave me such great advice. I didn't follow the advice, but in hindsight I know I should have. They told me not to major in biology, but instead major in a subject that I actually like. Then take the pre-med prerequisites separately. Instead I kept packing my schedule and my GPA suffered so much I just gave up on medical school. So if medical school is your goal, slow down, get a certification, major is something other than biology, and take science classes separately. You'll be much better off.

Most Full-time STEM Curriculums: I'm going to create an environment that is so toxic

Loved your video & words -- it was very calming as well!. It sucks that outside factors like finances influence students to compromise their health/wallets/education to fit the mold of getting a degree in four years

Thank you so much for making this video. I was struggling my first semester and this made me feel better. I'm glad I'm not the only one 😩

This is me watching this video at 1am and thinking about taking a semester off to recuperate. I'm so tired with virtual classes and it took a toll on my mental health already idk anymore if I can still handle it and get through another semester.

The moment she said to take science classes separately I knew I was screwed.... me here taking chem 122, physics 181 and bio 190 this semester...

I agree with getting certifications. I got an second associates degree after my bachelors in Medical Laboratory Technology. I wish I could go back in time do the certification first then get a bachelors degree in Medical Lab Science. But you know we all end up in the place that we are supposed to be.

Physics and what?!!!! No. 😂 you’re strong. I did Engineering but I had to do chemistry my first year, so happy when I was done with it. I agree with talking to professors more, I did that in my final year and that helped A lot. Thinking of doing grad school but I took a year off already and it’s seeming like the best decision

Chemistry as a minor— as a chemistry major, I feel it. Wish I wouldn’t have put myself through that struggle.

Omg, thanks bc I’m currently working on prerequisites for the nursing program. I’m definitely taking this advice. I’m actually taking the maths with easy electives.

I'm going to start this August on my Bio major bc I'm planning on going to dental school, I'm just worried that my schedule will be too rigorous or about what other post-undergrad choices I have if I don't choose to go into dentistry. Your video was super helpful Dana, glad I saw this before scheduling my classes for next semester!

How challenging was biology. It was a shocking surprise impression when I try college biology because need to practice active study.

As a biology major I would've gotten a certification because it is very hard to find a job with just the biology degree if you don't get a masters or a PhD. GET A CERTIFICATION OR MINOR would be my advice.

Same currently still in undergrad entering junior year . Feel so far behind now have so many science classes left because I was told to take all core classes first. It’s like they work against you !

Taking Bioscience actually makes me enjoy gen chem lmao it's literally just a painful massive info dump of information with my prof

Do you have any tips for finding a job with a Biology degree?

I wish more people talked about getting certifications while in undergrad. A Biology degree is basically useless in the healthcare field without experience or certifications.
