i dont think marie is shocked because she was insulted, i think she was hurt and this is the point where she realized her actions were hurting callie. if it was just an insult to her, she would've probably been ready to snap back. instead, she looked inward at her own actions and realized 'wow, this is how callie feels and its kind of my fault'. she cares about callie, but had failed to treat her with respect.

realizing this on live television that yeah, the way she had been acting hurt callie, must have very much been a big motivator for her in splatoon 2, i think.
