Which Algae Eater NOT to Get

I am a big fan of these lights. The just look great in the tank. I was running 14,000k bulbs on this setup. You want to run 6700k in the planted tank. the lower the spectrum works better on planted tanks. These light bulbs weren't cheap but are worth it in my opinion....

I did a comparison of the leds to the t5s on my densely planted 90 gallon aquarium. The difference in plant growth was hardly anything. But the one thing that I did like about the leds was the fact that there were no cooling fans and that there was a "shimmer" effect. I know that the metal halides have a "shimmer" effect but they are energy guzzlers and heat up, therefore, you need cooling fans.

I have the same light over my sump, great light and your right about the fans they do suck, My fan broke so I ripped it apart to find out the small wires there used rusted out, So I no longer run a fan with the light, So far it seems to be fine and that was a month ago.

im running a 2 year old aqua fx LED alongside 2 T5, s in my freshwater trigon 190, the aqua fx seriously outshines the T5's and the plants grow towards the LED ( they grow at an angle), also the water shimmer from the LED looks great.

I've heard people mounting computer fans to the sides of their lights to help cool things down. They come in all sorts of diameters and are designed to run quietly. But it would taking some modification of equipment.

that pet place uses leds on one of their planted tanks and it seems to be doing rather well

@baldboy123 i know that 6500 or 6700 is the way to do. I haven't done discuss...yet. They are so sensitive and don't come out... i have thought about it though...dirts ph stays under control with water changes.

I had L.E.D.'s on a 10 gallon with some swords and wisteria marineland single bright with the actinics totally not for plants but growth was slow to normal. Id say L.E.D.'s are a win for the aquaculture. Some cons being info about the lumans and par and coloris hard to figure out as well as the price of the high end ones are right there with metal halide.

LED lights are fine. Low heat and bright. Nothing compared to MH for plants and corals and it's shimmer effect.
