How to Draw Eyes in Your Own Style • Eye Tutorial

Today I'm breaking down a few different ways to stylize eyes. These are great ways to start learning how to draw eyes in your own style.

Some key ways to draw eyes in a new style is to learn how to simplify, exaggerate, and minimize different eye features. But the most important part to drawing eyes is learning from reference of course! I'll cover all of these point in this video!

I always draw eyes without a pupil. I put the colour of the iris and highlights. Then kind of a smokey eyelid. Eyelashes vary. Sometimes I just do a thick eyeliner so the eyelashes barely show and I do very long and thick eyelashes but I sometimes also do very thin eyelashes that kinda blend into the smokey eyelid. Depends what type of character. Sometimes I also do a very soft pupil if I feel like that would help my character's look.

When I draw my eyes I usually think first on the character and how their personality is, then off of that I design the eye in a way that would compliment them as a person, but still holds my own said-style. It’s sounds kinda confusing at first but the more you practice the easier it gets and the more it makes sense😅😅

Love how far over the eye is looking at 5:38 - that's one thing I rarely think about when drawing (where the pupil is aiming). That sounds like a fun thing to ponder - where is your character looking? What is it looking at? Could be a way to make portraits more interesting!

Great video! It's so interesting to see that little changes can impact how realistic an eye looks. As my art is drifting more and more into realism, I keep the highlights in my eyes quite simple to stay on a semi-realism site.
