End of week one in the New Hoop House

I'm amazed at how much growth has occurred in just one week. Most of the seedlings that I transplanted in the raised bed a week ago have doubled in size and beets that I planted from seed were up and growing in three days, I wish I had done this years ago. The humidistat that I had ordered arrived after I made this video and the reading is 72% which is high but not as high as I thought it would be. I must do some research to see what a good reading is for a greenhouse I suspect the reading should be higher than you would have it in your home anyway.

I think I said this before, growing under plastic is a really cool deal. Definitely a unique experience. Sounds like you're hooked already. Welcome to the club ! :-)

Super! There's nothing like the pleasure of being well pleased with a decision or purchase. There'll be some planning over Winter now!
Best Wishes, Brendan.

Sweet! And with our climate, every thing grows better in a greenhouse

@NewEnglandgardening Thank you. Yes I agree it would never survive outside and may not survive in the hoop house but I just had to give it a try. I have a second plant in the basement that will go back in the hoop house in the spring. I read somewhere that even if the tree dies it might come back from the roots and still produce fruit. Time will tell and it will be interesting to see what happens.

@GulfCoastJaguarundi Thanks I'm really enjoying it. More tomatoes everyday now, it's either feast or famine with tomatoes.

@Watsamadoing Thank you. Nothing quite like vine ripened tomatoes I've had ripe ones for a week or two in my other little greenhouse, if both greenhouses start producing them I guess I will need to start canning.

@ptboy4 Thank you. I would like to think that I can bring the figs through our winter in the hoop house it isn't easy carrying them in and out of the house once they reach this size and bigger. I guess the only way to know is to give it a try .

Hi, Minus -17 Celsius I think is definitely too cold for a fig tree. Like you were saying, especially cold drying winds. The forecast is for 5 F here in Massachusetts and I will bring all my figs in the cellar since I don't have a shed yet. Nice hoop house.

@dulce3tat Thank you. Fingers crossed that Irene doesn't do too much damage.

fig trees are really strong when they're well rooted. I don't know if you can see my fig trees in my first video, but they're huuuuge. and don't die neither with heat nor cold.
Nice video and loop house. Your plants are looking really nice.

That's awesome! Your growth is much better than mine. Mmm that tomato looks yummy. I can't wait until we get some.

@dianemummvideos My concern right now is it getting too cold in there but I know what you mean next summer I plan to grow mostly heat loving plants in there tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, melons etc. even our summer climate is too cool for most of these things to ripen before September and I don't have any luck with sweet peppers at all. Once some of these things have run their course I will replant again for a fall crop of cool season vegetables. Very much a learning experience right now.

You could make some yummy salsa with all your veggies! Looking really good.

That's a great hoop house, Dale! You've got a regular salad bar growing in there.

@garygardens This fall I will weed whack it if it gets to be a problem but once the other raised beds are in I plan to mulch it out. Possible with wood shavings I buy compressed bails of shavings for bedding for the chickens and there is a lot of material in a bail for not much money.

@DCARA06 Hmmm never though of that but yes I have some onions, not very big this year, I just harvested the garlic have lots of that and with the tomatoes and chilies coming on that is a definite possibility.
