The Yamaha Music Siren is truly a masterpiece of engineering. Using choppers to make a melody is genuinely beautiful. Wish these things weren't so rare.

First gen is like: "Okay, I can hear some music but it still sounds like muted sirens otherwise."
Second gen is like: "Wow, it no longer sounds like a siren anymore."

The first siren brings back so many memories being a military child growing up with my dad being in the U.S. Army stationed in Fort Drum, New York. Fort drum had those exact sirens all over the base and every day in the mornings at around 8-9 AM they would play Reveille, and at 5 PM in the afternoons they would play Evening Colors, and then at 10 PM they would play Taps. It’s been about a decade now since I last heard any of those songs since we moved to Texas and have been here since. Great memories.

There are a few Music Sirens still active to this day, at the moment i'm not sure if their status has been updated to 2025.
The 1st generation music siren is located at a Department Store at the Oita Prefecture which is still active, the 2nd generation music siren is located at Hamamatsu, near Yamaha's Headquarters in a factory, the factory has been demolished in 2019 along with the siren, the entire factory was replaced by a parking lot and the 2nd generation siren along with the older 14 note 1st gen music siren are stored in a warerhouse of unknown location as far as im aware.

Hearing the modulators at Scott AFB is so nostalgiac to me every night at 5 o’clock. Made you feel some sort of proud. Then hearing Taps at 10 o’clock at night was sad almost.

That Whelen WPS has some powerful speakers.

Yamaha can literally build good sounding cars (Lexus LFA), pianos and sirens apperantly too.

Although Yamaha music siren is now gone, it was what eventually led to the creation of vocaloid. The music siren yamaha made is like the early intention of what soon became a well-known creation!

As a “Brat” thanks for sharing these don’t think I’ve witnessed these ones in particular, but I believe we had something similar on our base

Yamaha music sirens are the best of all, 1st generations can play simple melodies . The 2nd generation can play fast and more complex songs unlike the 1st generation which plays simple and slow melodies . 3 Music sirens which is still active (Tokiwa Main Store, Iga City Hall, Yawatahama) two of them being 1st generations installed in 1970 and 1982
One 2nd generation installed in 1992 (in the order : Tokiwa, Iga City Hall and Yawatahama)
There is a map for it which you can find in the ARS yamaha music siren page 16
The music sirens existed since 1951, when the 1st one ever installed at Hamamatsu Yamaha Factory, instead of the usual 12 note, it had 14 (the only 14 note ever) 2nd one installed is at Okayama, they ordered 2 music sirens (1st generation and 2nd generation) 2nd ever 1st generation installed
In early 1980s or late 1980s, the 1st generation production line were stopped due the lack of sales (since high quality speakers became mainstream) so the 2nd generation production line started, in 1998 the line stopped due to noise complaints, ending the production of all music sirens.
So, time table for the active music sirens
Tokiwa Main Store
8 AM - Morning (Asa)
12 AM, noon - Bride Doll
7 PM - Annie Laurie

Iga City Hall
7 AM - Morning Mood (Peer Gynt)
12 AM, noon - Basho
6 PM - Goin' Home (Home Road)
10 PM - Brahm's Lullaby

Yawatahama, Mt Atagoyama
6 AM - Yawatahama fishing port
12 AM, noon - Hill of the Tangerine blossoms
6 PM - Small Sunset Glow

As far as i know and the music siren community, that is all the active music sirens
Bonus: Yawatahama's music siren is broken ;(

Models for the locations mentioned above:

Hamamatsu: 1st generation 14 note (special 1 of 1 model)
Okayama: 1st generation (12 note) and 2nd generation
Tokiwa Main Store: 1st generation (2 of them wow *one of them inactive and unknown as far as i know*)
Iga City Hall: 1st generation (8 note)
Yawatahama: 2nd generation 12b (for the supposed 12 note and eb key)

More locations:
Uwajima Castle
Marumitsu, Sendai
Oita City Hall
Ueno Chamber of Commerce
Omuta
Yamaha Ginza
Toyomachi
