OpenKylin is a new distro offering, hailed as China's first independent, open-source desktop operating system. Worked on by over 3,000 developers, 74 SIGs, and over 200 enterprises, openKylin has come a long way since its early releases.
openKylin 1.0 is based on the long-term-supported Linux Kernel 6.1, and takes its name from a mythical creature in Chinese mythology called 'Qilin'.

OpenKylin is community version of NeoKylin which is paid RHEL-alike Linux distro which is derivated from Ubuntu Kylin which is a flavor of Ubuntu.
NeoKylin replaced old S2C Kylin which is a huge mess in every aspect, codebase, packages, marketing, you name it.
The DE here is UKUI, same one as Ubuntu Kylin, based on MATE.

The most interesting part of Kylin is UKUI desktop that can make newcomers feel at home, of course there's Linux Mint and Zorin already there, but this theming looks the most Windows-like. I need to try OpenKylin, because I'm interested in software availability and default apps this distro comes with.

how easy is it to install things like Flatpak, does it support deb files and such? My hope is that China isnt using this as an opportunity to limit what people can do with their computers. This could result in a massive increase in market share for Linux on PCs, which could improve software support for Linux as a whole.
