I've planted in straw bales for years. My tomatoes really do extremely well in them.

I'm gonna plant potatoes, yams and cukes in a leaf pile from two years ago. Wish me luck 😸

Please keep us informed. I've thought about making raised beds with these and it would be helpful to plant in them

Due to limited space, I created garden space using bales along my wall, then used those bales next season for planting and mulching. I'm interested in your cold frame system too. Thanks for your video.

South Texas has Fire ants, you won't have any luck with that here.

I raised a nice crop of ants like that.

I did plant in straw two years ago. We did good, but we conditioned with fertilizer before put the seeds and plants.

Grew nice sweet potatoes like that laat year. Only problem was we had tons of rain and the bales stayed very wet for a while. Started going to mush...

I was hoping you were going to do oyster mushrooms. One it gives you a mushroom crop and then it also decays the hay into useful compost. It may not work in all environments because it can't be too hot and dry

Seen a couple they grow potatoes in them in furrows or mound rows, makes it easy because ur planting above ground and because it holds water they never had to water them.

I wouldn't have started with root veg while it is still twine packed. Maybe vining like cuke or strawberry. I've also heard mushroom do really well. Next vid for results i guess.

In central Texas, you couldn't reuse that hay bale. It would be infested with fire ants. We'd just burn it. I hate those little bastards.

Turn the bale on edge.. not on end (that doesn't make sense).. this way you don't need to cut the straw

I wouldn't water it too much it will get too hot in the roots from the straw breaking down

If you soak it over night in hydrated lyme and then put grain or wood dowel inoculation you fan grow mushrooms out the side and veggies out the top

Carrots might be hard because they need root space. But I've grown awesome tomatoes in straw bales.
