I have a company run by a younger gen xer and I see the difference with how he runs versus the boomer run offices from before. Company started in 2015, CEO is 43 years old and his emphasis on work life balance, wanting to see people thrive in an out of the company (he's encouraging me to write a book of some local adventures I have), and wanting to pay fair wages is much more important than boomer businesses of the past. I was even impressed during COVID. Executives took a 20% pay cut while other corporate employees took a 10% cut and when it turned out we didn't tank because of COVID we were given back pay on the reduced pay. We also have a hybrid schedule 2 days out of 5 in the office.

All in all, I've been impressed and hope atmospheres like this become the norm as older generations retire...

Been a remote/home based worker for 30+ years. It's not as easy as it looks. But worth it if it works with your life style and you're disciplined.

I’m a social worker and I work from home since the pandemic. I do have to make home visits and attend a monthly staff meeting. Some people work hybrid but I have a specialized position so I am 100% remote. I love it!! I’m so much more productive and save on food, clothes, gas, and time, to name a few.

I don’t feel comfortable working in-person because of my bipolar disorder making my energy inconsistent to commute and work a normal schedule (and I feel self conscious about how my behaviors/ticks look to others) so I want to work remote so I can work as best as I can. Thank you for sharing resources on how to find work and please share more.

So far I’ve been WFH since the pandemic. I work in health care operations in NYC. I come in for meetings and happy hours once in a blue

Close to own toilet - check
Able to put on laundry during the day - check

I'm a farmer! Early starts but long breaks during the day and only a 2 minute ride on the quad back home to change over my laundry or turn the oven on/off. Pretty good life really

I work hybrid but I like it. We get to work 2 days remote and we pick the 2 days we want. I get the bulk of my work done on the days I’m in the office and just watch emails the days I’m remote. And, if I’m just not feeling well enough to go in I can just work remote as long as I let them know.

I sometimes forget how grateful i am to WFH. They switched us home during COVID and said we can stay working from home permanently. Look for county jobs that are considered “office/desk” jobs. My occupation is eligibility worker which they offer WFH after one year.

Remote work for a year now and I have to say my mental health is doing so much better — I had a high-paying HR leadership role at a big auditing firm and had to resign due to anxiety attacks. I now manage a team in SE Asia for Canadian-owned edtech company. I love the flexibility of remote work. I make sure I set boundaries between work hours and personal time away from my laptop.

I started commuting again and it’s so dumb. Waking up an hour + earlier, to take crowded public transportation in uncomfy pants, then I sit in a cubicle and join teams meetings.

Ceos and upper managers are getting upset by it and trying to force everyone back full time. There are FAR more hybrid roles than fully remote

I work from home for an organization that was founded over 75 years ago, the thing is that it has continually evolved in order to keep up with the times and reflect modern values as well as work expectations

I’m more suited for hybrid. I was full time remote for 2 years and I could not find a work life balance. My space became where I worked, slept, ate, and entertained.
