This was 8 and a half minutes of my life that could not have been better spent! I am so happy that they did this with Don McLean and still was able to put the Home Free charm on it!😁

This should be considered as a national treasure! What do you think?

Thank to my amazing Patreons!

Agree, Chance was really outstanding and I think he is doing the bass when Tim is doing the lead.

This rendition by Home Free and Don McLean is indeed a masterpiece. I see you totally absolutely enjoy that 8 minutes. It was beautifully done

Don McLean, is not a songwriter per se, but more of a poet that writes music....his Vincent is a prime example (Starry starry night)....it's a poem to Vincent Van Gogh put to music....and beautifully too. This is just beautifully arranged, ESPECIALLY that last harmonizing stanza...no beatboxing but 5 part harmony !!!

I love how Home Free makes this their own but keeps the original in tact. This is honestly the best song and collaboration home free has done.

Always loved this song!! Home Free added so much with their harmonies!!!It’s a toe tapper until you really listen to the lyrics!! The world of the 60s...Rock n Roll. Elvira, Dylan, Beetles, Vietnam, Assignation JFK & his brother Bobby, Helter Skelter Manson murders, Hippies, Peace, Pot. Landing on the Moon, Kent State. I went from age 6 to 19 s when this started plying on the radio. 8 minutes that told the story of my generation. HF showed such respect to Don in this video!! Great Reaction!!

People have to realize that this band is at the top of their game and we get to see it first hand. They need more credit and need to be on the radio. Thanks for your reaction

How relatable this song is today with all of the artists we've lost since then, the lost in space reminded me of the Challenger explosion. Patsy Cline's Anniversary is coming up soon too. This will be the 20th anniversary of 9/11 this year etc. The vocals were all amazing and Adam Rupp's beatboxing for that long in this song 🤗

This song rocketed straight to the top, I think they made it through the second verse and it was cemented as my favorite HF song. The versatility of having Adam C really comes in handy here since he can switch to the baseline when Tim takes the lead. They did the same on Mayday, but here the whole song just shines like a diamond. Each of their solos is better than the last. I think the whole world needs this little shot of happy nostalgia. This song makes me feel like we need new adjectives created, I love how it feels like HF wanted Don to be the star. They each have a little solo, but they are complimentary to him, it seems like they always have an arrangement that makes the guests stand out. Sometimes an artist will feel a bit obscured when they collaborate with another, that never seems to be the case with HF.

This was the shortest 8 and a 1/2 minutes of my life, yet I remember everything the lyric's referred to, like it happened just yesterday. I remember the crash, and the day this song came out, and of course; every single word of this song still today. As someone else once said, Don McLean wasn't just a song writer. He was a poet, and a book writer. I loved your reaction. BTW- you deserve much success, so here's to hitting the 1 K mark soon, and soaring onward and upwards from there.

Was anxiously awaiting your reaction to this.. perfection. Thanks. I have no doubt in my mind that this one is truly stellar.. I enjoyed this one with you .. I am old enough to remember when the original was released.. and yeah.. Don really still does have it! Mind boggling.

My gosh, you are right, I don't ever remember or FEEL like this song is ever that long. The first little bit was really well done, and then when they all sang together the first time I think an actual 'wow' came out of my mouth, and then when the beat kicked it I just couldn't help but bop along the whole time. The way they ended it too was just stunning, shivers all over. So well done, this really has been a great start of a year with music, especially acapella music!! The fact Don was with them just made this such a special moment, and they all were amazing, but I agree with you, loved Chace, he did great!

Saw an interview with McLean several years ago where he was asked what the song meant to him. He said "it meant that I never would have to work again!" Well said!

In an interview with Jeremy White, Don McLean, when asked why he decided to remake the song said;

"Home Free approached me, said they were going to cover it and asked me to join them."

"This version is their song, not mine. I was there for the intro, for the end, and between verses"

"I think it went very well"

Interviewer: "I think so as well"

American Pie was released in 1972. At that time a local radio stn. would send (on request) a breakdown of the meaning and symbolism of each line of the lyrics. The song is so rich in history and so beautifully written - a true masterpiece. I think the age in Don McLean's voice only adds to the poignancy of the song.
