The employee is just moving the pants around, which tells me that this process could easily be automated. And it's this kind of dangerous job that I believe _should_ be automated.

Because the jeans are blue, they absorb most of the energy from the laser. Skin reflects most red light, so the laser does not affect skin nearly as much

So this job is much easier the whiter your skin is literally. Since the Lazer burns darker colors easier like the blue but it doesn't really burn light colors easily like the white fibers underneath. This would feel similar to a laser tattoo removal tool and the darker the skin it hits would hurt much much worse because the darker colors absorb more of the light and lighter colors reflect the light. Also they have a foot pedal to control it.

my excuse for the lack of safety would be that the red frequency of the laser is probably not all that well absorbed by skin compared to the blue jeans, so it probably isn't dangerous

i like that people are focused on worker safety, but in truth if the laser did hit his hand he would be hurt less than accidentally touching a hot pan/pot. the real thing to look out for is the eye and respiratory protection, and, depending on the type of laser, uv protection

Omg I work with laser cutters. Technically, it should be locked down so it can't fire with the lid open.

Anyways, if it hits your skin, it will leave a nice tattoo.

I could be wrong but I thought you could manipulate lasers or make them so they only cut through the material and if your hands are under them it wouldn't do much.
