The best car is the one you can learn from. I learned that a 2004 Ford Taurus was not the perfect first car.

Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion, but I believe that everyone’s first car should be a beater. It’s a great way to learn to appreciate your car, and you can also learn a little bit of car maintenance that way.

The best car in my opinion is the one that you can buy, the one that you can afford and take care for the rest of your life. it may sound weird but you will never be a true car guy if you didn't have that soul connection between you and your car (not just a hobby but a passion)

The best first car is the one you can afford to run, insure and inevitably fix when it breaks down.
Who cares what your first car actually is, its about the freedom that first car gives you

I’m massively into cars my parents got a 2014 vw polo for me to practice in because my dad’s work van is too big to learn in and my mum’s one is automatic, so I couldn’t use their cars. I don’t like to think of it as ‘mine’ as I didn’t pay for it (I’m in full time education so don’t earn enough money!) but at the same time my parents wanted me to become a safe and proficient driver and to have practice. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better first car it’s reliable and the safety standards are high. Even though I’m very much interested in cars, and a few years ago I considered a 10 year old polo to be boring, it’s absolutely perfect for a learner who is learning on manual.

Mazda RX-7 and RX-8 or a old BMW V12 with no historic of maintenance are amazing first cars

The car that gets you out of the living room but also doesn't feel like you are driving a living room.

Got a 2005 1.4 Polo. The thing is fun to rip around in and is fairly cheap to keep around.

Americans are so lucky as to what you can drive as a first car. In the UK our insurance is so expensive that there's only so many realistic cars you can own and insure

In my mind there are 3 things that make a best first car 1.easily modifiable 2.spaciousness and 3.fuel economy which usually results either between Toyota or Honda

Can we talk about that "Tarantino zoom" in the end? Well played.

My first car was a 79 dodge ram I got for $50 in 1993. Everyone else was driving around in civics, k cars, tempos, and celebrities. I was rolling around town in my big bad dodge. Father was a janitor at a high school so I was using the auto shop there once a week to throw on a set of nearly dead tires I picked out of garage tire piles at random tire shops around town. Created a lot of tire smoke while I was in high school!

First Car;

1.) From Japan - cheap in all but strong engine

2.) Coupe - come on man you are 16.. a coupe looks all time cool but cooler when its your first car!

3.) Japan Car - you are the Underdog, no one loves the normal boring guy with the Chevy Spark or Dodge Dart or whatever.. NO don't drive that shit!
Drive a Civic Type R or Eclipse Spyder!
Thats what you want and you know that.

Thank you for an honest answer to a question everyone should answer based on all these variables.

2005 Honda accord exl v6. It was cheap it was reliable (relatively), comfortable, and fun to drive. I still miss that car but I sold it while it was still worth something. Got it for $3000 sold it for $2500 got 4 years out of it.

Best first car to buy is cheap, easy to learn to do mechanical stuff and cheap enough that if you crash, bump into things and such you won't mind. That will also make it easier to learn without fear of ruining it if it's already kind of ruined.
