The reason why red + blue turned green is because the shade of red was orange, A more pinkish red would’ve made the outcome purple.

Unpopular opinion: no color is ugly in the right context. All those shades of brown or gray or green or ‘washed out’ have been used, and still can! Be used for setting moods for paintings. All color is relative and is beautiful if you know where to use it

For all y’all wondering why blue and red made green, it’s because they used warm variants of those two colors. A cool toned red and a cool toned blue make very pretty purples, but warm toned reds and warm toned blues make very strange colors.

Any color can look pretty or ugly, it entirely depends on the context in which it's used, as well as lighting, perception, how well you understand colors as whole, and whether or not you're an artist.
I love thinking about stuff like this, it's fun :D
